Two-Color Single Hybrid Plasmonic Nanoemitters with Real Time Switchable Dominant Emission Wavelength

2015

International audience; We demonstrate two-color nanoemitters that enable the selection of the dominant emitting wavelength by varying the polarization of excitation light. The nanoemitters were fabricated via surface plasmon-triggered two-photon polymerization. By using two polymerizable solutions with different quantum dots, emitters of different colors can be positioned selectively in different orientations in the close vicinity of the metal nanoparticles. The dominant emission wavelength of the metal/polymer anisotropic hybrid nanoemitter thus can be selected by altering the incident polarization.

Propagation of Dyakonon Wave-Packets at the Boundary of Metallodielectric Lattices

2013

We rigorously analyze the propagation of localized surface waves that takes place at the boundary between a semi-infinite layered metal-dielectric (MD) nanostructure cut normally to the layers and a isotropic medium. It is demonstrated that Dyakonov-like surface waves (also coined dyakonons) with hybrid polarization may propagate in a wide angular range. As a consequence, dyakonon-based wave-packets (DWPs) may feature sub-wavelength beamwidths. Due to the hyperbolic-dispersion regime in plasmonic crystals, supported DWPs are still in the canalization regime. The apparent quadratic beam spreading, however, is driven by dissipation effects in metal. This work was supported by the Spanish Mini…

Dynamical Casimir-Polder interaction between an atom and surface plasmons

2013

We investigate the time-dependent Casimir-Polder potential of a polarizable two-level atom placed near a surface of arbitrary material, after a sudden change in the parameters of the system. Different initial conditions are taken into account. For an initially bare ground-state atom, the time-dependent Casimir-Polder energy reveals how the atom is "being dressed" by virtual, matter-assisted photons. We also study the transient behavior of the Casimir-Polder interaction between the atom and the surface starting from a partially dressed state, after an externally induced change in the atomic level structure or transition dipoles. The Heisenberg equations are solved through an iterative techni…

Study of the dynamics of biomolecules by high speed atomic force microscopy and surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy

2015

This thesis focuses on the coupling of High–Speed Atomic Force Microscopy (HS-AFM) and Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS) for biomolecule analysis. We have designed a fabrication protocol to manufacture “SERS-active” substrates. The efficacy of gold, silver and gold-silver bimetallic crystalline nanoparticle substrates were evaluated. We have investigated the impact of optical and morphological features of the substrates on Raman signal intensity by analyzing well-known samples such as bipyridine ethylene and methylene blue molecules. We took an interest in three distinct biological problematics with HS-AFM and SERS analyses. First, we have detected the chemical signature of cytochr…

Ultrathin high-index metasurfaces for shaping focused beams

2015

The volume size of a converging wave, which plays a relevant role in image resolution, is governed by the wavelength of the radiation and the numerical aperture (NA) of the wavefront. We designed an ultrathin (λ/8 width) curved metasurface that is able to transform a focused field into a high-NA optical architecture, thus boosting the transverse and (mainly) on-axis resolution. The elements of the metasurface are metal-insulator subwavelength gratings exhibiting extreme anisotropy with ultrahigh index of refraction for TM polarization. Our results can be applied to nanolithography and optical microscopy. Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (MEC) (TEC2013-50416-EXP).

Synthesis of Yb nanoparticles by laser ablation of ytterbium target in sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl)sulfosuccinate reverse micellar solution

2010

Abstract Surfactant-coated ytterbium nanoparticles were produced by Nd:YAG laser ablation of a Yb bulk target immersed in sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl)sulfosuccinate (AOT)/ n -heptane micellar solution. In our experimental conditions, as highlighted by IR spectroscopy, AOT molecules are not decomposed by the intense laser pulses but play a pivotal role in the stabilisation of Yb nanoparticles. The formation of Yb nanoparticles in the liquid phase was monitored by UV–Vis spectroscopy whereas the Yb/AOT composites obtained by evaporation of the organic solvent were characterised by XPS and TEM. Data analysis consistently shows the presence of surfactant-coated, nearly spherical and non-interacting…

Analyse locale des sensibilités des lectures angulaires, spectroscopiques et ellipsométriques de la Résonance des Plasmons de Surface en vue de la mi…

2006

The fluorescence labelling, used by the fluorescence biochips, is known to change the charge distribution of the labelled molecules and then modify their biological activity. Among label free biosensors, we choose an optical detection, such as spectroscopic ellipsometry and/or surface plasmon resonance (SPR) of the biolayers. These optical techniques are based on the measurement of both thickness and optical index of the adsorbed biolayer. An AFM statistical measurement of the thickness of functionalized lithographed microstructures has been performed in order to determine the thickness of the biolayers. We have shown that the spectroscopic reading of the SPR phase shift is 100 times more sen…

Analysis of the Bloch mode spectra of surface polaritonic crystals in the weak and strong coupling regimes: grating-enhanced transmission at oblique …

2004

The Bloch mode spectrum of surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) on a finite thickness metal film has been analyzed in the regimes of weak and strong coupling between SPP modes on the opposite film interfaces. The SPP mode dispersion and associated field distributions have been studied. The results have been applied to the description of the light transmission through thick and thin periodically structured metal films at oblique incidence. In contrast to normal incidence, all SPP Bloch modes on a grating structure participate in the resonant photon tunnelling leading to the transmission enhancement. However, at the angle of incidence corresponding to the crossing of different symmetry film SPP …

Plasmonic Stripes in Aqueous Environment Co-Integrated With Si3N4 Photonics

2018

We demonstrate the design, fabrication, and the experimental characterization of gold-based plasmonic stripes butt-coupled with low-pressure-chemical-vapor-deposition (LPCVD)-based Si3N4 waveguides for the excitation of surface-plasmon-polariton (SPP) modes in aqueous environment. Plasmonic gold stripes, in aqueous environment, with cross-sectional dimensions of 100 nm × 7 μm were interfaced with 360 nm × 800 nm Si3N4 waveguides cladded with low-temperature-oxide, exploiting linear photonic tapers with appropriate vertical (VO) and longitudinal (LO) offsets between the plasmonic and photonic waveguide facets. An interface insertion loss of 2.3 ± 0.3 dB and a plas…
