Multialternating graded polynomials and growth of polynomial identities

Let G be a finite group and A a finite dimensional G-graded algebra over a field of characteristic zero. When A is simple as a G-graded algebra, by mean of Regev central polynomials we construct multialternating graded polynomials of arbitrarily large degree non vanishing on A. As a consequence we compute the exponential rate of growth of the sequence of graded codimensions of an arbitrary G-graded algebra satisfying an ordinary polynomial identity. In particular we show it is an integer. The result was proviously known in case G is abelian.

On the Zero-Set of Real Polynomials in Non-Separable Banach Spaces

We show constructively that every homogeneous polynomial that is weakly continuous on the bounded subsets of a real Banach space whose dual is not weak ∗ separable admits a closed linear subspace whose dual is not weak ∗ -separable either where the polynomial vanishes. We also prove that the same can be said for vectorvalued polynomials. Finally, we study the validity of this result for continuous 2homogeneous polynomials.

Line element-less method (LEM) for beam torsion solution (truly no-mesh method)

In this paper a new numerical method for finding approximate solutions of the torsion problem is proposed. The method takes full advantage of the theory of analytic complex function. A new potential function directly in terms of shear stresses is proposed and expanded in the double-ended Laurent series involving harmonic polynomials. Estimation of ordered response models with sample selection

We introduce two new Stata commands for the estimation of an ordered response model with sample selection. The opsel command uses a standard maximum-likelihood approach to fit a parametric specification of the model where errors are assumed to follow a bivariate Gaussian distribution. The snpopsel command uses the semi-nonparametric approach of Gallant and Nychka (1987, Econometrica 55: 363–390) to fit a semiparametric specification of the model where the bivariate density function of the errors is approximated by a Hermite polynomial expansion. Bayesian inference for the extremal dependence

A simple approach for modeling multivariate extremes is to consider the vector of component-wise maxima and their max-stable distributions. The extremal dependence can be inferred by estimating the angular measure or, alternatively, the Pickands dependence function. We propose a nonparametric Bayesian model that allows, in the bivariate case, the simultaneous estimation of both functional representations through the use of polynomials in the Bernstein form. The constraints required to provide a valid extremal dependence are addressed in a straightforward manner, by placing a prior on the coefficients of the Bernstein polynomials which gives probability one to the set of valid functions. Using the Hermite Regression Formula to Design a Neural Architecture with Automatic Learning of the “Hidden” Activation Functions

The value of the output function gradient of a neural network, calculated in the training points, plays an essential role for its generalization capability. In this paper a feed forward neural architecture (αNet) that can learn the activation function of its hidden units during the training phase is presented. The automatic learning is obtained through the joint use of the Hermite regression formula and the CGD optimization algorithm with the Powell restart conditions. Exact and approximate analytical solutions for nonlocal nanoplates of arbitrary shapes in bending using the line element-less method

AbstractIn this study, an innovative procedure is presented for the analysis of the static behavior of plates at the micro and nano scale, with arbitrary shape and various boundary conditions. In this regard, the well-known Eringen’s nonlocal elasticity theory is used to appropriately model small length scale effects. Denote by $\mu_1(\Omega)$ the first nontrivial Neumann eigenvalue of the Hermite operator in $\Omega$; we prove that $\mu_1(\Omega) \ge 1$. The result is sharp since equality sign is achieved when $\Omega$ is a $N$-dimensional strip. Our estimate can be equivalently viewed as an optimal Poincaré-Wirtinger inequality for functions belonging to the weighted Sobolev space $H^1(\Omega,d\gamma_N)$, where $\gamma_N$ is the $N$% -dimensional Gaussian measure.
