Functional nicotinic acetylcholine receptors on subplate neurons in neonatal rat somatosensory cortex.

The establishment of cortical synaptic circuits during early development requires the presence of subplate neurons (SPn's), a heterogeneous population of neurons capable to integrate and process synaptic information from the thalamus, cortical plate, and neighboring SPn's. An accumulation of cholinergic afferents and nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) has been documentated in the subplate around birth. To assess the developmental role of the cholinergic innervation onto SPn's, we used whole cell patch-clamp recordings of visually identified and biocytin-labeled SPn's in neonatal rat somatosensory cortex. Abstract Humans are characterized by a large heterogeneity in lifespans. The aging rate, measured as a decline of functional capacity and stress resistance, is different in every individual. Several attempts have been made to define the so-called biological age, but without achieving real success. Biomarkers of aging, which are represented by biological indicators selected using appropriate criteria, should help to characterize the biological age. Networks simulate simple organisms living in an environment Reproduction is based on the ability of each network, during its life, to respond to sensory information from the environment with appropriate motor action. Population genetics of cucumber mosaic virus infecting medicinal, aromatic and ornamental plants from northern Italy

An epidemiological survey carried at the Herb Garden of Casola Valsenio (Emilia Romagna region; Northern Italy) from 2006 to 2009 resulted in finding Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) as the infectious agent of several ornamental, medicinal and aromatic plants. All CMV-infected plant species showed leaf symptoms followed, in some cases, by flower colour-breaking and stunting. Genetic analysis consisted in the characterization of movement protein gene of each CMV-isolate by single strand polymorphism analysis and sequencing. NATURAL SELECTION AND THE ORGAN-SPECIFIC DIFFERENTIATION OF HIV-1 V3 HYPERVARIABLE REGION

The existence of organ-specific HIV-1 populations within infected hosts has been studied for many years; nonetheless results reported by different authors are somewhat discrepant. To tackle this problem, we used a population genetics approach to analyze previously published data from the V3 hypervariable region of the envelope env gene. Our results are compatible with a population subdivision by organs in 95% of individuals analyzed at autopsy. In addition, populations infecting the nervous system and testicles clearly appear as differentiated subsets of the so-called macrophage-tropic variants. Objective Our aim was to provide normative data concerning superior orbital fissure area (SOFA), ocular skin and the substantia nigra (D-SS) and orbital fissure and the substantia nigra (D-SOF-S) distances by CT scan in adult Caucasian population. Methods The area of the superior orbital fissure (SOF), the distance between the ocular skin and the substantia nigra and the distance between the superior orbital fissure and the substantia nigra using CT and 3D-CT images. La población hallada se encuentra próxima a las hoces del río Tajo en Cuenca y está compuesta por 32 ejemplares, de los cuales sólo 2 son adultos. We found the first population of Euonymus latifolius in Castilla-La Mancha region (Spain) near the river Tajo in Cuenca province with only 32 plants, 2 of which are adults.

The assessment of pro-social moral reasoning through objective measurement is considered an important attainment in pro-social development research in recent decades. Based on N. Eisenberg's theory, PROM (Carlo et al., 1992) can objectively measure reasoning cognitive processes related to pro-social behaviour. This paper presents the adaptation and accreditation of this instrument for a Spanish adolescent population. The randomisation of the selected sample, its wide scope, and the reliability and validity of the results obtained make PROM a suitable instrument for evaluating the different pro-social reasoning types related to aid conduct amongst adolescents.
