Sociālo problēmu risināšanas saistības ar piesaistes stiliem jauniem pieaugušiem.
2017

Open-ended projects opened up — aspects of openness
2017
Abstract—One of the most important areas of competence for professional engineers is the ability to function well in project work, in particular they need to be able to efficiently solve open-ended problems in different collaborative settings. The development of this ability is however not prominent in engineering education despite numerous authors suggesting openended problems as a pedagogical tool to promote development of collaborative problem solving competence by including elements of group or project work in courses. In our own long experience of using open-ended problems in collaborative student projects, we have identified a lack of systematic progression in learning outcomes and sk…
THE PROMOTION OF FUTURE PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHERS’ ABILITY FOR ANALYSING COMPLEX EDUCATIONAL SITUATIONS. A METACOGNITIVE APPROACH
2013
When approaching and solving educational problems, those who are about to start a teaching profession, need to involve strategies in order to appropriately answer complex problems characterizing educational situations. We examine one way to promote specific transfer of general skills: a methodology entails the elicitation, analysis and inclusion of case-study as a primary form of instructional support while learning to solve problems. This approach is referred to as analysis of cases drawn from real-world educative contexts in order to help students develop problem solving skill. Learning is supported by conversations and stories about problematic and difficult cases. In this paper we intro…
“Anything taking shape?” : Capturing various layers of small group collaborative problem solving in an experiential geometry course in initial teache…
2022
Collaborative problem solving (CPS) is widely recognized as a prominent 21st-century skill to be mastered. Until recently, research on CPS has often focused on problem solution by the individual; the interest in investigating how the theorized problem-solving constructs function as broader social units, such as pairs or small groups, is relatively recent. Capturing the complexity of CPS processes in group-level interaction is challenging. Therefore, a method of analysis capturing various layers of CPS was developed that aimed for a deeper understanding of CPS as a small-group enactment. In the study, small groups of teacher education students worked on two variations of open-ended CPS tasks…
Students’ collaboration dispositions across diverse skills of collaborative problem solving in a computer-based assessment environment
2023
Collaborative problem solving (CPS) has been considered as one of the vital 21st century skills. To be successful in CPS requires not only CPS skills but also positive attitudes towards collaboration (i.e., collaboration dispositions). However, the relationship between CPS skills and collaboration dispositions has not been studied much, especially among early adolescent students. The purpose of this study is to investigate the dimensions of students' collaboration dispositions and their relationship to students' assessed CPS skills (i.e., social and cognitive skills of CPS, see Hesse et al., [2015]). Data were collected from 214 Finnish sixth-grade students (Meanage = 12.44, SDage = 0.32, f…
The nature of quantities influences the representation of arithmetic problems: evidence from drawings and solving procedures in children and adults
2017
International audience; When solving arithmetic problems, semantic factors influence the representations built (Gamo, Sander & Richard, 2010). In order to specify such interpretative processes, we created structurally isomorphic word problems that could be solved with two distinct algorithms. We tested whether a distinction between cardinal and ordinal quantities would lead solvers, due to their daily-life knowledge, to build different representations, influencing their strategies as well as the nature of their drawings. We compared 5th grade children and adults in order to assess the validity of this hypothesis with participants of varying arithmetic proficiency. The results confirmed that…
Skolēnu teksta uzdevumu risināšanas veicināšana matemātikas mācībā 2. Klasē
2018
Bakalaura darbā tiek pētīta skolēnu teksta uzdevumu risināšanas veicināšana matemātikas mācībā 2.klasē. Bakalaura darba autore ir Aleksandra Gorškova. Darba mērķis ir izzināt skolēnu teksta uzdevumu risināšanas veicināšanu matemātikas mācībā 2. klasē un apkopot ieteikumus par skolēnu teksta uzdevumu risināšanas veicināšanu matemātikas mācībā sākumskolā. Bakalaura darbs sastāv no divām daļām – teorētiskās un empīriskās. Darba teorētiskā daļa balstīta uz M. Ovčinnikovas (2001), I. Marčenko (2011), A. Belošistajas (2007), N. Istominas (2001), J. Menča (2014), M. Moro un A. Piškalo (1975), I. Dubrovinas (2003) un citu autoru teorētiskajām atziņām. Teorētiski analizēta matemātikas mācības būtība…
Resilience as a predictor of Quality of Life in participants with borderline personality disorder before and after treatment.
2021
Abstract Background Studies have suggested that psychotherapy improves the Quality of Life (QoL) of participants with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). However, there are no studies on the differential efficacy of treatments on the QoL of participants with BPD. Moreover, the relationship between QoL and resilience has rarely been studied in participants with BPD. Objectives: a) to examine whether people with BPD have worse QoL than the non-clinical population; b) to examine whether there are statistically significant differences between Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Systems Training for Emotional Predictability and Problem Solving (STEPPS), or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy-Tre…
Hothousing: Utilising industry collaborative problem-solving practices for STEAM in schools
2022
Collaborative problem solving (CPS) has been widely used in both industry and in schools over at least the last twenty years. The Industry Hothousing variant of CPS in its adult format is an intensive, time-constrained workshop based process designed to build mutual trust between customers and industry experts in order to synergically develop creative solutions together. Its potential use in schools raises two important questions: Firstly, what degree of structure and support is required to unleash student creativity and enhance learning - as in industry or does the student need more structured methods including explicitly being taught collaborative problem solving skills? Secondly, is CPS …
