Automated approach for indirect immunofluorescence images classification based on unsupervised clustering method
2018
Autoimmune diseases (ADs) are a collection of many complex disorders of unknown aetiology resulting in immune responses to self-antigens and are thought to result from interactions between genetic and environmental factors. ADs collectively are amongst the most prevalent diseases in the U.S., affecting at least 7% of the population. The diagnosis of ADs is very complex, the standard screening methods provides seeking and recognizing of Antinuclear Antibodies (ANA) by Indirect ImmunoFluorescence (IIF) based on HEp-2 cells. In this paper an automatic system able to identify and classify the Centromere pattern is presented. The method is based on the grouping of centromeres present on the cell…
The Role of Satisfaction With Job and Cognitive Trauma Processing in the Occurrence of Secondary Traumatic Stress Symptoms in Medical Providers Worki…
2022
Introduction: As an occupational group, medical providers working with victims of trauma are prone to negative consequences of their work, particularly secondary traumatic stress (STS) symptoms. Various factors affect susceptibility to STS, including work-related and organizational determinants, as well as individual differences. The aim of the study was to establish the mediating role of cognitive trauma processing in the relationship between job satisfaction and STS symptoms among medical providers.Procedure and Participants: Results were obtained from 419 healthcare providers working with victims of trauma (218 nurses and 201 paramedics). Three questionnaires, namely the Secondary Trauma…
Data from: Temporal structure of human gaze dynamics is invariant during free viewing
2016
We investigate the dynamic structure of human gaze and present an experimental study of the frequency components of the change in gaze position over time during free viewing of computer-generated fractal images. We show that changes in gaze position are scale-invariant in time with statistical properties that are characteristic of a random walk process. We quantify and track changes in the temporal structure using a well-defined scaling parameter called the Hurst exponent, H. We find H is robust regardless of the spatial complexity generated by the fractal images. In addition, we find the Hurst exponent is invariant across all participants, including those with distinct changes to higher or…
Data from: Pairing context determines condition-dependence of song rate in a monogamous passerine bird
2013
Condition-dependence of male ornaments is thought to provide honest signals on which females can base their sexual choice for genetic quality. Recent studies show that condition-dependence patterns can vary within populations. Although long-term association is thought to promote honest signalling, no study has explored the influence of pairing context on the condition-dependence of male ornaments. In this study, we assessed the influence of natural variation in body condition on song rate in zebra finches (Taeniopygia guttata) in three different situations: during short and long encounters with an unfamiliar female, and within heterosexual mated pairs. We found consistent individual differe…
Isolation of nuclei and downstream processing of cell-type-specific nuclei from micro-dissected mouse brain regions – techniques and caveats
2020
AbstractThe mammalian brain consists of several structurally and functionally distinct regions equipped with an equally complex cell-type system. Due to its relevance in uncovering disease mechanisms, the study of cell-type-specific molecular signatures of different brain regions has increased. The rapid evolution of newer and cheaper sequencing techniques has also boosted the interest in cell-type-specific epigenetic studies. In fact, the nucleus holds most of the cell’s epigenetic information and is quite resistant to tissue dissociation processes as compared to cells. As such, nuclei are continually preferred over cells for epigenetic studies. However, the isolation of nuclei from cells …
