Analysing the relationship between yields and farmers' incomes to help the design of more sustainable cropping systems

2022

Farmers often grow only the few high-yielding crops in the area, and target maximum yields through high levels of inputs. These practices are based on the assumption of a positive relationship between productivity and profitability over a wide range of cropping systems (Woo et al., 2020; Erythrina et al., 2021). Part of the correlation between productivity and profitability could be related to differences in production situation and therefore yield potential, i.e. characteristics that do not depend on farmers’ decisions. For a given production situation, the systems with the highest profitability and the best environmental sustainability could be systems with moderate yields. The objective …

LOS COSTES, GASTOS, BUROCRACIA E INCREMENTO DE PRODUCTIVIDAD POR LA CERTIFICACIÓN EN LA NORMA ISO 9000 EN LA EMPRESAS CERTIFICADAS EN LA NORMA ISO 90…

2005

Acting Agentically at Work: Developing a Short Measure of Professional Agency

2021

Although professional agency has become an increasingly crucial issue in work organizations, investigators lack a brief instrument to measure it. This paper introduces a short measure to explore professional agency at work. Our aim was to shorten the original 17-item Professional Agency Measure, while also exploring its usability for cross-validating questionnaire datasets, and investigating the relationship between professional agency and work engagement. Three dimensions of professional agency emerged, with three items per dimension, across the domains of healthcare, real estate services, and information technology (all within Finland). All the dimensions (Influencing at work, Participati…

Análisis bibliométrico de la producción científica de la Universidad Politécnica de Valencia 1973-2001

2006

This article studies the scope of Polytechnic University of Valencia through the analysis of its scientific output since 1973 until 2001 based on the journal articles and conference papers available in the most relevant national and international databases. We analyze its productivity and time layout, according to the kind of document and language, as well as the scientific output by authors and departments, showing those most outstanding regarding productivity. On the other hand, we have researched the distribution and layout of scientific literature, pointing out the most used journals. The results show as the most relevant aspects a wide range of themes covered, the constant annual incre…

Productive Efficiency of Decanters with Short and Variable Dynamic Pressure Cones

2003

Abstract This paper presents the results of experimental trials carried out on third-generation, variable dynamic pressure cone decanters to assess machine performance and adjust the process parameters for optimum extraction yield. The results obtained led to the following conclusions: the regulation of the differential velocity screw/bowl allows a better performance of the decanter at low dilutions of the olive paste; it is possible to obtain high efficiency at a low dilution of the olive paste achieving a higher minor compounds content and the more advanced system of regulation leads to better results according to the variations of the ratio between liquid and solid phases, thus optimisin…

ICT demand behaviour: An international comparison

2009

This study aims to provide some empirical explanations for the gaps in ICT diffusion between industrialized countries, especially European countries vis-à-vis the United States. The panel data cover eleven OECD countries: Austria, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States. These annual macroeconomic data span the 1981-2005 period. The analysis provides some original results: (i) the impact on ICT diffusion of the level of education and market rigidities has changed over time. The correlation of ICT diffusion, positive with the level of education and negative with market rigidities, increased over time (in absolute terms)…

Manufacturing export performance and public capital: an analysis by country technology position

2021

The objective of this paper is to examine the relationship between public capital and manufacturing export performance. It also aims at investigating whether this relationship depends on the proximity of a country's technology frontier. To achieve this, we adopted a methodology that estimates the elasticities of public capital as a non-rival factor in a model that considers factor intensity as a mechanism of industrial development. We use an interaction model with panel data from 1999 to 2014 across 35 advanced and less advanced countries. Our results show that in countries far from the technology frontier, public capital accumulation is an element of industrial development as opposed to co…

Analysis of the determinants of entrepreneurial intention: the case of Burkina Faso

2018

International audience; In this study, we propose to analyze students' entrepreneurial intention, drawing on Lazear's (2004) self-selection model. This model captures the role of "human capital" in employment assignment and emphasizes the importance of the variety of skills in the individual's entrepreneurial orientation. For this purpose, we have a database collected in 2017 from over 1000 students at Ouaga I and Ouaga II universities in Burkina Faso. The results of estimates obtained using the quantile regression method show a positive and significant effect of the diversity of skills on the intention score, mainly at the median level. Even if the effect is not strong, this result support…

Livelli e fattori della produttività scientifica della psicologia accademica. Una analisi bibliometrica

2015

The survey concerns the bibliometric analysis of the scientific productivity of the 8 Scientific Areas in which the Academic Italian System of Psychology is subdivided (Settori Scientifico-Disciplinari, SSD). To this end, data were retrieved from the Scopus (available at March 2012), one of the most internationally representative scientific databases. Results shows that the Scientific Areas differ from each other with respect to productivity but they tend to show similar rates of growth. Moreover, the Scientific Areas show different organizational characteristics (extension of the collaborative networks, language of publication, number of the international co-authorships); these characteris…
