Factorization in closed string field theory

Abstract The so long made assumption, that a general closed-string vertex operator V should be built as a product of left- and right-moving vertex operators, rests on the fact that the closed-string Fock spce is constructed as a tensor product of left- and right-moving open-string Fock spaces. In this letter we will relax this assumption by proving that factorization of closed-string vertices is a general rule.

Background radiation effects and hazards in planetary instrumentation

Recent and proposed future planetary missions are becoming increasingly concerned with detailed geochemical assessment, often in a bid to ascertain the presence of water and life supporting geochemical systems. The instruments involved may use some kind of radioactive source, e.g. X-ray fluorescence spectrometry, Mossbauer spectrometry, neutron scattering. Having radioactive sources on a lander/rover poses various potential problems, in regard to both safety to personnel involved in the building of the instrument and to radiation effects on spacecraft structure and on other instruments. Time of flight measurements based on FPGA and SiPMs for PET–MR

Coincidence time measurements with SiPMs have shown to be suitable for PET/MR systems. The present study is based on 3 x 3 mm(2) SiPMs, LSO crystals and a conditioning signal electronic circuit. A Constant Fraction Discriminator (CFD) is used to digitalize the signals and a TDC FPGA-implemented is employed for fine time measurements. TDC capability allows processing the arrival of multiple events simultaneously, measuring times under 100 ps. The complete set-up for time measurements results on a resolution of 892 +/- 41 ps for a pair of detectors. An optimized time screening algorithm for ROSAT PSPC and HRI observations

We have developed a model-independent time screening optimization algorithm to cope with significant contamination spikes in the ROSAT PSPC/HRI bacground light-curves. The rejection criteria are based on the maximization of faint sources signal-to-noise ratio. The algorithm tuning parameters have been optimized through performing a wide set of runs on both simulated and real data. We have verified that the application of our selection criteria to the case of long exposure PSPC observations yields an increase of the number of faint sources ( SNR ) of up to 100% with a rejection of up to the 8% of the exposure time. FlexibleSUSY -- A spectrum generator generator for supersymmetric models

We introduce FlexibleSUSY, a Mathematica and C++ package, which generates a fast, precise C++ spectrum generator for any SUSY model specified by the user. The generated code is designed with both speed and modularity in mind, making it easy to adapt and extend with new features. The model is specified by supplying the superpotential, gauge structure and particle content in a SARAH model file; specific boundary conditions e.g. at the GUT, weak or intermediate scales are defined in a separate FlexibleSUSY model file. Four colour photometry of late-type binary systems

This paper presents new complete uvby light curves of the late-type detached eclipsing binary BH Vir (G0V + G5V, P =0 : 81687099). This binary system has been observed during four cam- paigns at the Calar Alto Observatory (Almeria, Spain) and at the European Southern Observatory (La Silla, Chile). Non-Perturbative Renormalization of Lattice Four-Fermion Operators without Power Subtractions

A general non-perturbative analysis of the renormalization properties of $\Delta I=3/2$ four-fermion operators in the framework of lattice regularization with Wilson fermions is presented. We discuss the non-perturbative determination of the operator renormalization constants in the lattice Regularization Independent (RI or MOM) scheme. We also discuss the determination of the finite lattice subtraction coefficients from Ward Identities. We prove that, at large external virtualities, the determination of the lattice mixing coefficients, obtained using the RI renormalization scheme, is equivalent to that based on Ward Identities, in the continuum and chiral limits. Dynamics for a 2-vertex Quantum Gravity Model

We use the recently introduced U(N) framework for loop quantum gravity to study the dynamics of spin network states on the simplest class of graphs: two vertices linked with an arbitrary number N of edges. Such graphs represent two regions, in and out, separated by a boundary surface. We study the algebraic structure of the Hilbert space of spin networks from the U(N) perspective. In particular, we describe the algebra of operators acting on that space and discuss their relation to the standard holonomy operator of loop quantum gravity. On the Leibniz bracket, the Schouten bracket and the Laplacian

International audience; The Leibniz bracket of an operator on a (graded) algebra is defined and some of its properties are studied. A basic theorem relating the Leibniz bracket of the commutator of two operators to the Leibniz bracket of them is obtained. Under some natural conditions, the Leibniz bracket gives rise to a (graded) Lie algebra structure. In particular, those algebras generated by the Leibniz bracket of the divergence and the Laplacian operators on the exterior algebra are considered, and the expression of the Laplacian for the product of two functions is generalized for arbitrary exterior forms.
