The Barker hypothesis of ‘foetal origin of adult diseases’ has led to emphasize the concept of ‘developmental programming’, based on the crucial role of epigenetic factors. Accordingly, it has been demonstrated that parental adversity (before conception and during pregnancy) and foetal factors (i.e., hypoxia, malnutrition and placental insufficiency) permanently modify the physiological systems of the progeny, predisposing them to premature ageing and chronic disease during adulthood. Two-Player Noncooperative Games over a Freight Transportation Network''

A game between two players acting on the same road transportation network is considered in this paper. The first player aims at minimizing the transportation costs, whereas the second player aims at maximizing her profit (or, in general, her utility) that is proportional to the flow passing through the arcs under her control. We introduce bilevel linear programming formulations for this problem. We derive conditions of existence and properties of the equilibrium points and propose an algorithm finding a local optimal solution. Finally, we present an application of the model to a real system involving trucks travelling through Europe from a Middle Eastern country.

Abstract The reduction in the level of maritime connectivity between Ireland and mainland Europe has been the focus of concern for Irish exporters since the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union in January 2019. This article summarizes a research program designed to assess operating conditions through capacity estimation at not-conventional roundabouts characterized by a central island with a large diameter and by two (or more) entering and circulating lanes. After describing the program of early compensatory education (from age 3 to 9), called Chicago Child-Parent Centers (CPC), this article collects and analyses the evaluation studies of that Program from a longitudinal perspective – Chicago Longitudinal Study (CLS)-, focusing primarily on methodological problems and afterwards on the short and, mainly, long terms effects, until the targeted subjects of the Program reached the age of 24. Use of Movies in an accounting class as a teaching technique to promote learning about financial reporting and ethical issues

[EN] This study presents an innovative experience using movies in an accounting class. The learning experience was found interesting and useful for the learning process in three groups in University XXX. The students voluntarily watched three movies and answered a test for each one, containing questions about the ethical and accounting concepts in the film, as well as their satisfaction with the methodology. Non-parametric tests have been computed to assess if those students that watch a movie obtain a higher exam mark as compared to those that do not follow the methodology, as well as for the other accounting and ethical questions.
