Three-dimensional real-time darkfield imaging through Fourier lightfield microscopy

We report a protocol that takes advantage of the Fourier lightfield microscopy concept for providing 3D darkfield images of volumetric samples in a single-shot. This microscope takes advantage of the Fourier lightfield configuration, in which a lens array is placed at the Fourier plane of the microscope objective, providing a direct multiplexing of the spatio-angular information of the sample. Using the proper illumination beam, the system collects the light scattered by the sample while the background light is blocked out. SiPMs coated with TPB: coating protocol and characterization for NEXT

[EN] Silicon photomultipliers (SiPM) are the photon detectors chosen for the tracking readout in NEXT, a neutrinoless \bb decay experiment which uses a high pressure gaseous xenon time projection chamber (TPC). The reconstruction of event track and topology in this gaseous detector is a key handle for background rejection. Among the commercially available sensors that can be used for tracking, SiPMs offer important advantages, mainly high gain, ruggedness, cost-effectiveness and radio-purity. Their main drawback, however, is their non sensitivity in the emission spectrum of the xenon scintillation (peak at 175 nm). An Island Strategy for Memetic Discrete Tomography Reconstruction

In this paper we present a parallel island model memetic algorithm for binary discrete tomography reconstruction that uses only four projections without any further a priori information. The underlying combination strategy consists in separated populations of agents that evolve by means of different processes. Agents progress towards a possible solution by using genetic operators, switch and a particular compactness operator. A guided migration scheme is applied to select suitable migrants by considering both their own and their sub-population fitness. The Reconstruction of Polyominoes from Approximately Orthogonal Projections

The reconstruction of discrete two-dimensional pictures from their projection is one of the central problems in the areas of medical diagnostics, computer-aided tomography, pattern recognition, image processing, and data compression. In this note, we determine the computational complexity of the problem of reconstruction of polyominoes from their approximately orthogonal projections. We will prove that it is NP-complete if we reconstruct polyominoes, horizontal convex polyominoes and vertical convex polyominoes. Moreover we will give the polynomial algorithm for the reconstruction of hv-convex polyominoes that has time complexity O(m3n3).

Decompositions and asymptotic limit for bicontractions

The asymptotic limit of a bicontraction T (that is, a pair of commuting contractions) on a Hilbert space H is used to describe a Nagy–Foias–Langer type decomposition of T. This decomposition is refined in the case when the asymptotic limit of T is an orthogonal projection. The case of a bicontraction T consisting of hyponormal (even quasinormal) contractions is also considered, where we have ST∗=S2T∗.

Integral microscopy is a 3D imaging technique that permits the recording of spatial and angular information of microscopic samples. From this information it is possible to calculate a collection of orthographic views with full parallax and to refocus computationally, at will, through the 3D specimen. Mixtures of the surfactant classes coconut diethanolamide, cocamido propyl betaine and alkylbenzene sulfonate were separated by capillary electrophoresis in several media containing organic solvents and anionic solvophobic agents. Good resolution between both the surfactant classes and the homologues within the classes was achieved in a BGE containing 80 mM borate buffer of pH 8.5, 20% n-propanol and 40 mM sodium deoxycholate. A method to apply multivariate curve-resolution unattendedly is presented. The algorithm is suitable to perform deconvolution of two-way data (e.g. retrieving the individual elution profiles and spectra of co-eluting compounds from signals obtained from a chromatograph equipped with multiple-channel detection: LC-DAD or GC-MS). The method is especially adequate to achieve the advantages of deconvolution approaches when huge amounts of data are present and manual application of multivariate techniques is too time-consuming. Management and Control of the Read Out Processors (tpps) of the Aleph Time Projection Chamber

The readout of the Aleph time projection chamber (TPC) relies on a set of 72 time projection processors (TPPs), which are based on a Motorola 68020 microprocessor running a real-time operating system. The advanced processing capabilities of the TPPs allow them to perform in parallel a number of tasks, both during and outside of data acquisition, which are outlined. The management and control of such a large number of intelligent devices is presented. A Time Projection Chamber with GEM-Based Readout

For the International Large Detector concept at the planned International Linear Collider, the use of time projection chambers (TPC) with micro-pattern gas detector readout as the main tracking detector is investigated. In this paper, results from a prototype TPC, placed in a 1 T solenoidal field and read out with three independent GEM-based readout modules, are reported. The TPC was exposed to a 6 GeV electron beam at the DESY II synchrotron. The efficiency for reconstructing hits, the measurement of the drift velocity, the space point resolution and the control of field inhomogeneities are presented.
