A Combinatorial Color Edge Detector

In this paper, we present an edge detection approach in color image using neighborhood hypergraph. The edge structure is detected by a structural model. The Color Image Neighborhood Hypergraph (CINH) representation is first computed, then the hyperedges of CINH are classified into noise or edge based on hypergraph properties. To evaluate the algorithm performance, experiments were carried out on synthetic and real color images corrupted by alpha-stable noise. The results show that the proposed edge detector finds the edges properly from color images.

Application of the S-CIELAB color model to processed and calibrated images with a colorimetric dithering method.

This work uses the S-CIELAB color model to compare images that have been calibrated and processed using a colorimetric dithering method which simulates increments in viewing distance. Firstly, we obtain XYZ calibrated images by applying the appropriate color transformations to the original images. These transformations depend on whether the image is viewed on a display device or encoded by a capture device, for example. On the uniform sampling of CIELAB color space and the number of discernible colors

This paper presents a useful algorithmic strategy to sample uniformly the CIELAB color space based on close packed hexagonal grid. This sampling scheme has been used successfully in different research works from computational color science to color image processing. The main objective of this paper is to demonstrate the relevance and the accuracy of the hexagonal grid sampling method applied to the CIELAB color space. The second objective of this paper is to show that the number of color samples computed depends on the application and on the color gamut boundary considered. As demonstration, we use this sampling to support a discussion on the number of discernible colors related to a JND.

Multi-agent Reinforcement Learning for Simulating Pedestrian Navigation

In this paper we introduce a Multi-agent system that uses Reinforcement Learning (RL) techniques to learn local navigational behaviors to simulate virtual pedestrian groups. The aim of the paper is to study empirically the validity of RL to learn agent-based navigation controllers and their transfer capabilities when they are used in simulation environments with a higher number of agents than in the learned scenario. Two RL algorithms which use Vector Quantization (VQ) as the generalization method for the space state are presented. Fermion Condensation in Finite Systems

Here we consider another example of systems, in which fermion condensation takes place. These are what is called finite Fermi systems, i.e. systems with finite number of fermions, contrary to a solid, where the number of electrons is practically infinite. An example of a finite Fermi system is an atomic nucleus, having finite number of nucleons, protons and neutrons, which are fermions. Here we show that the fermion condensation manifests itself in finite Fermi systems as a forced merger of all, discreet for finite systems, single-particle levels, lying near the Fermi surface. Graph matching for efficient classifiers adaptation

In this work we present an adaptation algorithm focused on the description of the measurement changes under different acquisition conditions. The adaptation is carried out by transforming the manifold in the first observation conditions into the corresponding manifold in the second. The eventually non-linear transform is based on vector quantization and graph matching. The transfer learning mapping is defined in an unsupervised manner. Once this mapping has been defined, the labeled samples in the first are projected into the second domain, thus allowing the application of any classifier in the transformed domain. Path integral quantization for massive vector bosons

A parity-conserving and Lorentz-invariant effective field theory of self-interacting massive vector fields is considered. For the interaction terms with dimensionless coupling constants the canonical quantization is performed. It is shown that the self-consistency condition of this system with the second-class constraints in combination with the perturbative renormalizability leads to an SU(2) Yang-Mills theory with an additional mass term.

In 2001, Hui and Neuhoff proposed a uniform quantizer with overload for the quantization of scalar signals and derived the asymptotically optimal size of the quantization bins in the high-bitrate limit. The purpose of the present paper is to prove a quantitatively more precise version of this result which, at the same time, is valid for a more general, quite natural class of probability distributions that requires only little regularity and includes, for instance, positive Lipschitz-continuous functions of unit integral.

Abstract We give an infinite-dimensional Lie group from which a group approach to quantization (GAQ) derives a Gupta-Bleuler-like quantization for the electromagnetic field. The incorporation into the group law of the gauge transformation properties of Aμ(x), Aμ(x) → Aμ(x) + ∂μφ, requires a non-conventional generator which is related to the BRST charge.
