Flow spectrophotometric determination of ammonium ion
1999
Abstract A flow procedure is proposed for the determination of ammonium ion. The sample in basic medium is forced through a solid-phase reactor containing immobilized AgCl on polymeric pearl beads. The released Ag + , complexed with the ammonia, gives a blue ternary complex with the aid of bromopyrogallol red and 1,10-phenanthroline which is spectrophotometrically monitored at 636 nm. The calibration graph is linear over the range 1–20 μg ml −1 ammonium ion, detection limit ( s / n = 3) 0.35 μg ml −1 and relative standard deviation (slope) 1.9 % ( n = 7). The sample throughput is 48 h −1 . The influence of foreign compounds is studied and the procedure is applied to ammonium ion determi…
Contribution to the adsorption voltammetric determination of manganese
1994
The adsorption voltammetric determination of Mn(II) with Bromopyrogallol Red (BPR) and Mordant Red 19 (MDR) has been investigated using a hanging drop mercury electrode. In NH3/NH4Cl solution, ligands and Mn(II) complexes give well separated voltammetric peaks after enrichment onto the electrode. The conditions for determining manganese by adsorption voltammetry with these reagents have been investigated in detail, as has the influence of foreign ions on the determination. The detection limits are 4·10−10 mol/L Mn for BPR and 8·10−10 mol/L Mn for MDR, respectively.
Development of a method for the analysis of seven banned azo-dyes in chilli and hot chilli food samples by pressurised liquid extraction and liquid c…
2008
An automated, confirmatory and sensitive procedure has been developed and validated for the determination of Sudan (I-IV), Sudan Orange G, Sudan Red 7B and Para Red in hot chilli food samples. The proposed method includes pressurised liquid extraction (PLE) with acetone, gel permeation chromatography (GPC) clean-up and detection by liquid chromatography (LC) coupled to electrospray ionization in positive mode tandem mass spectrometry (ESI-MS-MS). The main parameters affecting the performance of the different ionization sources and PLE parameters were previously optimised using statistical design of experiments (DOE). The method was in-house validated on chilli powder and chilli meat. Linear…
Synthesis of 8-aminomorphans with high KOR affinity
2021
2-Azabicyclo[3.3.1]nonanes (morphans) with a (3,4-dichlorophenyl)acetyl group at 2-position and a pyrrolidino moiety at 8-position were designed as conformationally restricted analogs of piperidine-based KOR agonists. The synthesis started with 4-oxopiperidine-2-carboxylic acid comprising 13 reaction steps. At first the ketone 10 was transformed into diester 7 bearing a propionate side chain. Dieckmann condensation of diester 7 to afford bicyclic enolester 14 and subsequent Krapcho deethoxycarbonylation represent the key steps of the synthesis. The enantiomeric pyrrolidines (1S,5R,8R)-5a and (1R,5S,8S)-5a were separated by chiral HPLC. The eutomer (1S,5R,8R)-5a showed high KOR affinity (K-i…
[The ketogenic diet: an underappreciated therapeutic option?].
2011
Obesity is reaching epidemic proportions in Western countries and is a strong risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Despite the constant recommendations of health care organizations regarding the importance of weight control, this goal often fails. Although there is a common agreement about the concept that exercise and diet are two key factors for the control of body weight, the ideal amount and type of exercise and also the ideal diet for weight control are still under debate. A widely accepted nutritional regime is the Mediterranean diet that has evident health benefits although less attention has been paid to see if the effects are due to other lifestyle factors which may contribute t…
Seasonal diet-based resistance to anticoagulant rodenticides in the fossorial water vole (Arvicola amphibius)
2021
International audience; Anticoagulant rodenticides (AR) resistance has been defined as "a major loss of efficacy due to the presence of a strain of rodent with a heritable and commensurately reduced sensitivity to the anticoagulant". The mechanism that supports this resistance has been identified as based on mutations in the Vkorc1 gene leading to severe resistance in rats and mice. This study evaluates the validity of this definition in the fossorial water vole and explores the possibility of a non-genetic diet-based resistance in a strict herbivorous rodent species. Genetic support was explored by sequencing the Vkorc1 gene and the diet-based resistance was explored by the dosing of vitam…
Towards automated diffraction tomography. Part II--Cell parameter determination.
2008
Automated diffraction tomography (ADT) allows the collection of three-dimensional (3d) diffraction data sets from crystals down to a size of only few nanometres. Imaging is done in STEM mode, and diffraction data are collected with quasi-parallel beam nanoelectron diffraction (NED). Here, we present a set of developed processing steps necessary for automatic unit-cell parameter determination from the collected 3d diffraction data. Cell parameter determination is done via extraction of peak positions from a recorded data set (called the data reduction path) followed by subsequent cluster analysis of difference vectors. The procedure of lattice parameter determination is presented in detail f…
Electro- and Photo-driven Reduction of CO 2 by a trans -(Cl)-[Os(diimine)(CO) 2 Cl 2 ] Precursor Catalyst: Influence of the Diimine Substituent and A…
2016
A series of [OsII(NN)(CO)2Cl2] complexes where NN is a 2,2′-bipyridine ligand substituted in the 4,4′ positions by H (C1), CH3 (C2), C(CH3)3 (C3), or C(O)OCH(CH3)2 (C4) has been studied as catalysts for the reduction of CO2. Electrocatalysis shows that the selectivity of the reaction can be switched toward the production of CO or HCOO− with an electron-donating (C2, C3) or -withdrawing (C4) substituent, respectively. The electrocatalytic process is a result of the formation of an Os0-bonded polymer, which was characterized by electrochemistry, UV/Visible and EPR spectroscopies. Photolysis of the complexes under CO2 in DMF+TEOA produces CO as a major product with a remarkably stable turnover…

Decision Support for Disaster Risk Management: Integrating Vulnerabilities into Early-Warning Systems
2014
International audience; Despite the potential of new technologies and the improvements of early-warning systems since the 2004 Tsunami, damage and harm caused by disasters do not stop to increase. There is a clear need for better integrating the fragmented landscape of researchers and practitioners working on different aspects of decision support for disaster risk reduction and response. To demonstrate and discuss the advantages of integrated systems, we will focus in this paper on vulnerabilities and early-warning systems. While vulnerabilities are mostly used to allocate risk management resources (preparedness), early-warning systems are designed to initiate the response phase. Indicator …
