Meta model of e-learning materials development

2014

The multitude of software tools is available for the creation of learning resources. However the majority of these tools provided by different software producers do not have a unified mechanism by means of which it would be possible to search and reuse the existing learning resources or their elements. To solve this problem the structures of descriptive data can be used. The aim of this paper is to describe a meta-model of e-learning objects and e-learning formats that could be used in the creation of e-learning materials compatible with various e-learning standards. The meta-data models that are used in widely-known learning resources’ repositories and their structure’s metadata standa…

In Silico Insights into the SARS CoV-2 Main Protease Suggest NADH Endogenous Defences in the Control of the Pandemic Coronavirus Infection

2020

COVID-19 is a pandemic health emergency faced by the entire world. The clinical treatment of the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) CoV-2 is currently based on the experimental administration of HIV antiviral drugs, such as lopinavir, ritonavir, and remdesivir (a nucleotide analogue used for Ebola infection). This work proposes a repurposing process using a database containing approximately 8000 known drugs in synergy structure- and ligand-based studies by means of the molecular docking and descriptor-based protocol. The proposed in silico findings identified new potential SARS CoV-2 main protease (MPRO) inhibitors that fit in the catalytic binding site of SARS CoV-2 MPRO. Several sel…

The Repurposing of Old Drugs or Unsuccessful Lead Compounds by in Silico Approaches: New Advances and Perspectives

2015

Have you a compound in your lab, which was not successful against the designed target, or a drug that is no more attractive? The drug repurposing represents the right way to reconsider them. It can be defined as the modern and rationale approach of the traditional methods adopted in drug discovery, based on the knowledge, insight and luck, alias known as serendipity. This repurposing approach can be applied both in silico and in wet. In this review we report the molecular modeling facilities that can be of huge support in the repurposing of drugs and/or unsuccessful lead compounds. In the last decades, different methods were proposed to help the scientists in drug design and in drug repurpo…

Hydro-Mechanical Behaviour of a Sand-Bentonite Mixture for the Confinement of Nuclear Wastes

2019

The established concept for the protection of the biosphere from high-level nuclear wastes consists in the use of multi-barrier systems in deep geological repository, for which clayey geomaterials are key elements. Bentonite-based materials are selected as buffer and backfilling materials. Once in place, the barriers will be subjected to a series of severe loadings, including strong variations of suction (i.e. wetting and drying cycles). The paper presents selected results from a large ongoing research work to investigate the behaviour of bentonite-based materials in the context of nuclear waste disposal. In particular, the paper focuses on the response of a Sand/Bentonite mixture under dif…

Author Rights vs Self-Archiving in Spanish Scientific Journals

2013

AbstractThe paper analyzes publishers’ copyright policies and self-archiving conditions of Spanish scientific journals. Data are extracted from the directory DULCINEA that contains information of 1318 Spanish journals, of which 775 (61%) allow some form of self-archiving to be about 60% of the post-print version and allowing them 87% of the deposit of the version of record. In 72% of journals the deposit can be performed immediately after publication and in 16% after article acceptance. 72% of the journals are freely available without charge to the user this figure raises up to 86% if free access after an embargo is considered. Only 18% of the journals use Creative Commons licenses. The ado…

RELIEVE: twenty years immersed in the chronology of open access of the sciences

2014

Coinciding with the first 20 years of RELIEVE, this article presents a comparative analysis of the historical milestones of the journal and the worldwide Open Access movement, in order to better frame its evolution. We review some of the principal contributions made in the field of scientific communication during these two decades: the appearance and development of electronic journals, the development of the Open Access movement, the appearance of repositories, the development of platforms to manage articles, new databases, etc.

The sharing of research data in the cell & Tissue engineering area: Is it a common practice?

2018

The availability of research data sets is an important milestone because it can enhance the dynamics of research. This study aims to analyze the PubMed Central repository to determine the availability and type of raw data sets in Cell & Tissue Engineering journals indexed in Journal Citation Reports. The number and types of files were registered. The main finding of this study is that, beyond the mandatory deposit of data in specific repositories that some journals require, the exchange of data as supplementary material in the Cell & Tissue Engineering journals is not a common practice since researchers are still reticent to do so.
