Presurgical role of MRI tractography in a case of extensive cervicothoracic spinal ependymoma

Background: Intramedullary spinal ependymoma is a tumor, hardly characterizable with conventional magnetic resonance (MR) imaging only. MR diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) with three dimensional fiber tracking reconstructions allows the evaluation of the relationship between neoplasm and white matter fiber tracts, being a powerful tool in presurgical planning. Previous work has demonstrated that most strains of the human pathogen Streptococcus pyogenes bind kininogens through M protein, a fibrous surface protein and virulence determinant. Here we find that strains of several other pathogenic bacterial species, both Gram-positive and Gram-negative, isolated from patients with sepsis, also bind kininogens, especially kininogen (HK). The most pronounced interaction was seen between HK and Escherichia coli. Among clinical isolates of E. coli, the majority of the enterohaemorrhagic, enterotoxigenic, and sepsis strains, but none of the enteroinvasive and enteropathogenic strains, bound HK. CFD prediction of shell-side flow and mass transfer in regular fiber arrays

Numerical simulations were conducted for fully developed, steady-state flow with mass transfer in fiber bundles arranged in regular lattices. The porosity was 0.5 and the Schmidt number 500. Several combinations of axial flow, transverse flow and flow attack angles in the cross-section plane were considered. The axial and transverse Reynolds numbers Rez , ReT were made to vary from 10(^−4) to 10(^2). Concentration boundary conditions, and the definition of an average Sherwood number, were addressed. El presente artículo analizará la reaparición de una nómina de combatientes de las Sergas de Esplandián de Garci Rodríguez de Montalvo en el Lisuarte de Grecia de Feliciano de Silva, hecho este que informa de la copia directa de Feliciano y que alerta al investigador de la posible reincidencia del autor en este proceder. La recurrencia y estructura de estas listas, en las que el componente oral y el papel del auditorio resultan fundamentales, proporcionan claves acerca de la dispositio narrativa de estos textos.
The rodents of the Pirro Nord fauna (Foggia, Southern Italy)

The rodent fauna of various fissure fillings of the Pirro Nord karstic complex are examined here. They have been collected during several field caingns starting from the 70’s until 2006 and are here examined in a comprehensive matter. Hundreds of specimens of arvicolids, murids and, in much lower amount, Glirids have been recovered from several of these fissures. They belong to the species Allophaiomys ex gr. ruffoi, Myodes sp. Apodemus flavicollis and Muscardinus sp.

The case of Gianni Rodari, an Italian communist children's writer whose books were received by the Soviet public with exceptional favour, proves how relations with western communist parties happened to be instrumental in opening up the Soviet cultural system to the world. Rodari became, in fact, well-known in the Soviet Union before attaining fame in his homeland; from the Sixties on, however, things became to change, and from this point on, it may be argued, children from different sides of the iron curtain were brought up reading the same books. Application of graphene quantum dots in heavy metals and pesticides detection

Graphene Quantum Dots (GQDs) were produced using electrochemical oxidation of graphite rods. Obtained GQDs were gamma-irradiated in the presence of the N atoms source, ethylenediamine. Both structural and morphological changes were investigated using UV-Vis, X-ray photoelectron and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy as well as atomic force microscopy. The ability of both types of dots to change PL intensity in the presence of pesticides such as malathion and glyphosate, as well as copper (II) ions was detected. Bei 41 Marknagelungen (21 unaufgebohrte und neun aufgebohrte Tibiamarknagelungen sowie vier unaufgebohrte und sieben aufgebohrte Femurmarknagelungen) trugen Operateur und 1. Assistent Ringdosimeter am dominanten Zeigefinger unter dem sterilen Handschuh. Bei Durchleuchtungszeiten von durchschnittlich 4.6 min pro Eingriff lag die mittlere Strahlenbelastung der Finger der Operateur bei 1.27 mSv und die der 1. Assistenten bei 1,19 mSv. Extrapoliert man den Gesamtmittelwert der ermittelten Strahlenbelastung der Hand der Operateure und 1.
