2010
The author uses the films of David Cronenberg as a basis to study the relation between cinematographic strategies of fright and horror. The first are often based on an opposition between the on- and off-camera, while the latter seem to rely on the shot/reverse-shot technique. In this sense, The Brood (1979) provides an interesting shift from fright to horror. The author aims at understanding the term “body horror” which has been associated with Cronenberg's films from the start. The author defines it as the moment when matter does not signify before various discourses (scientific, aesthetic) endow it with a form of nature.

Polskie oddziały wojskowe w służbie rosyjskiej w latach 1793-1794. Przyczynki źródłowe
2017
The article discusses, on the basis both of the literaturę on the subject and archival materials preserved in two Russian archives, the fate of military units from the Crown and Lithuanian Army of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, which in the spring-summer of 1793 were taken to the Russian service. Initially, they had ca. 24 thousand soldiers, but the Russian decided to disband some of the units, while reducing the number of others, thus the number of the servicemen decreased to 15 thousand. The least reduced was the garrison of Kamianets-Podilskyi, for in the service of Empress Catherine II stayed two almost non-reduced infantry regiments of the former Polish Army and part of artillery …
Tralci d’argento: busti reliquari e paliotti in Sicilia tra Sei e Settecento
2022
Some silver works made in Sicily between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries are investigated, characterized by similar decorative repertoires whi…
Condictio e causa actionis
2014
Since the publication of Julius Baron’s book about the condictiones in 1881, the condictio of the Roman formulary procedure is considered as an ‘abstract’ action. In Baron’s opinion this peculiar nature was due to the fact that its formula never mentioned – and could not mention – the basis of the claim neither in its intentio, nor in a demonstratio, nor in a praescriptio. By considering the two formulae of condictio certae pecuniae recorded in TPSulp. 31, this paper focuses on the concept of causa actionis in order to call into question the gospel of the ‘abstractness’ of the formular condictio. A new analysis of the sources leads to the conclusion that in the formulary procedure the condi…

A long-snouted late Eifelian arthrodire from Aragon (Spain)
2021
Carolowilhelmina geognostica Carls, 1995 is a large arthrodire (Placodermi) from the Tortodus kockelianus Conodont Zone, late Eifelian, in the Eastern Iberian Cordillera in southern Aragon. The somewhat incomplete but articulated skull is preserved, showing a long tubular rostral plate, very small postnasal plates, low toothless inferognathals, and a small, slender and flat parasphenoid. Supraorbital and central sensory lines meet their antimeres at the midline of the skull, forming a straight double line. Lines along the ventral surface of the rostral plate probably belong to the suborbital branches of the infraorbital sensory lines. The combination of characters of Carolowilhelmina points…
