As a perennial xerophytic shrub, characterized by plesiomorphic features, the caper (Capparis spinosa L.) is naturally spread throughout the Mediterranean basin and occupies an important ecological role, as well as an economic one, in traditional and specialized systems for commercial production. Aphids were the first animals described as photoperiodic due to their seasonal switch from viviparous parthenogenesis to sexual reproduction (cyclical parthenogenesis) caused by the shortening of the photoperiod in autumn. This switch produces a single sexual generation of oviparous females and males that mate and lay diapausing cold-resistant eggs that can overcome the unfavourable environmental conditions typical of winter in temperate regions. Improved Mesophyll Protoplast Culture and Plant Regeneration in Arabidopsis thaliana (L.) Heynh., Genotype Landsberg Erecta

Summary The response of in vitro cultured Arabidopsis thaliana mesophyll protoplasts was investigated with the aim of characterising the crucial factors that affect plating efficiencies and plant regeneration. We selected the genotype Landsberg erecta, which is frequently used for genetic studies, but which is known to respond poorly in protoplast culture. Factors permitting vigorous vegetative growth of the donor plants, i.e. short light period and avoidance of high temperature, were found to be advantageous. Subdivision schemes are commonly used to generate a smooth shape from a much more coarseone. The reverse subdivision is designed to describe a high resolution mesh from a coarse one. Bothof these tools are used in numerous graphical modelisation domains. Mating strategies and resulting patterns in mate guarding crustaceans : an empirical and theoretical approach

Because of strong costs associated with each mating event, females are usually not as available for reproduction as males at any given time. Males are therefore in competition with each other for access to receptive females, hence leading to strong sexual selection. One textbook case of such a mating system occurs in moulting crustaceans where females can only be fertilized during a short period following their moult. This has favoured the evolution male strategies to monopolize females before their period of receptivity. Influence of core color on final shade reproduction of zirconia crown in single central incisor situation ? An in vivo study

Background A lot of shaded zirconia blocks are being introduced into the market. Their effect on the final shade of the restoration is yet uncertain. Material and methods Twenty-four zirconia crowns were fabricated for 8 patients who needed to restore a single maxillary central incisor, and divided into 3 groups according to the color and type of the zirconia (Zr) used (white Zr core, colored Zr core, and monolithic high translucency (ht) Zr crowns).
