A melanocortin 1 receptor (MC1R) gene polymorphism is useful for authentication of Massese sheep dairy products

2011

Massese is an Italian sheep breed, with black or grey coat colour, mainly reared in the Tuscany and Emilia Romagna regions. Recently, the emerging interests in this breed have resulted in the production of Pecorino cheese obtained with only Massese milk. In order to be profitable, this marketing link between Massese breed and its products should be defended against fraudsters who could include milk of other sheep breeds or cow milk in Massese labelled productions. To identify the genetic factors affecting coat colour in sheep, we have recently analysed the melanocortin 1 receptor (MC1R) gene and identified several single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). In this work, as a first step to set …

Microbiological characterization and effect of resin composites in cervical lesions

2017

Background Non carious cervical lesions associated to muscle hyperfunctions are increasing. Microhybrid resin composites are used to restore cervical abfractions. The purpose of this study was to investigate if resin composites modify tooth plaque, inducing an increment of cariogenic microflora and evaluate their effect, in vivo and in vitro, against S. mutans. Material and Methods Eight abfractions were restored with two microhybrid resin composites (Venus, Heraeus-Kulzer® and Esthet-X, Dentsply®), after gnatological therapy, in three patients with muscle hyperfunctions. For each abfraction three samples of plaque were taken from the cervical perimeter: before the restoration, one week and…

Targeting Acute Leukemia and Cancer by High-Affinity T-Cell-Receptor Transfer

2003

Accumulation and subsequent overexpression of human mdm2 (hdm2) and altered p53 protein is associated with high-level presentation of hdm2 and wild-type (wt) p53 derived peptides by major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I molecules on a wide range of malignant cells. A major barrier to the design of broad-spectrum hdm2 and p53 specific immunotherapeutics for leukemia and cancer, however, has been the observation that low-level expression of hdm2 and wt p53 peptides by non-transformed tissues and cells results in self-tolerance of T-lymphocytes with high avidity for self-class I MHC / self-peptide complexes. Although the peripheral T-cell repertoire is mostly devoid of such high-avidi…

Chicken adaptive response to low energy diet: main role of the hypothalamic lipid metabolism revealed by a phenotypic and multi-tissue transcriptomic…

2019

AbstractBackgroundProduction conditions of layer chicken can vary in terms of temperature or diet energy content compared to the controlled environment where pure-bred selection is undertaken. The aim of this study was to better understand the long-term effects of a 15%-energy depleted diet on egg-production, energy homeostasis and metabolism via a multi-tissue transcriptomic analysis. Study was designed to compare effects of the nutritional intervention in two layer chicken lines divergently selected for residual feed intake.ResultsChicken adapted to the diet in terms of production by significantly increasing their feed intake and decreasing their body weight and body fat composition, whil…

Aneurysm clipping following endovascular coil embolization: A report of two cases

2009

Abstract BACKGROUND: Treatment of intracranial aneurysms by Guglielmi detachable coil (GDC) embolization is a useful therapeutic alternative to surgery. This procedure is attractive as a minimally invasive approach to treat cerebral aneurysms; however, is not devoid of complications or failure and retreatment, with either a surgical or endovascular technique, may often be required. CASE REPORTS: Two cases are presented in which surgery was required after coil embolization. In one case, surgical treatment was performed one month later because of regrowth and subsequent bleeding of the aneurysm. In the second case, surgical treatment was carried out six months later because of recanalization …

Canova divulgato tra «Können» e «Wollen» nell’opera di Alfred Gotthold Meyer

2014

This article is a critical introduction to the Italian translation of Meyer's Canova monograph (1898), it focuses on the editorial process and on the use of photography during this early stage of popular art history. Further consideration is given to Meyer's critical point of view in the context of the German fin-de-siècle art discourse (Burckhardt, Springer, Bode, Wölfflin, Hildebrand).
