A Case of Cardiomyopathy Due to Premature Ductus Arteriosus Closure: The Flip Side of Paracetamol.

2017

Paracetamol (acetaminophen or N-acetyl-p-aminophenol) is considered a safe analgesic and antipyretic nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug commonly used during pediatric ages and during pregnancy. We report on a term neonate with closed ductus arteriosus, severe cardiomyopathy, right ventricular dysfunction, and functional stenosis of pulmonary arteries at birth after maternal self-medication with paracetamol and consumption of polyphenol-rich foods in late pregnancy. This drug, especially when associated with other vasoconstrictors (such as polyphenols), interferes with prostaglandin metabolism, which seriously accentuates the intrauterine ductus arteriosus constriction and leads to pharmacol…

Partiti populisti, diritti e uguaglianza di genere

2021

The Great Recession changed the political landscape of the European democracies with the electoral success of populist protest parties in different countries. In this article, we wonder if there are features that characterized these political parties about the issues of gender equality and women’s rights. Populism and feminization of politics are recurring topics in the scholars’ debate, but the relationships between these two phenomena are still little studied. Seeing as the issue is linked to context, and not only to the political parties’ differences, we will focus on three illustrative cases, in different European nations – Spain, Finland, Poland – analysing scientific literature and do…

Populist parties in Europe, from propaganda to legal reforms: whether freedoms of expression, association and religion are under threat?

2018

The effect of the recent populist legislative tendencies results in sharpening new and old tensions between national and international legal orders and, in the European Union scenario, in particular, the most alarming outcome could be a potential and systematic breach of the European Convention on Human Rights and the liberal democratic values expressed in it. Regarding the argument of the enforcement, nevertheless, besides the importance of the international recommendations and soft law instruments, above all the EU Guidelines on the promotion and protection of freedom of religion or belief, it could be crucial the role that the religious leaders should perform towards a more inclusive int…

Perspectiva feminista como ética periodística en México

2021

?What ought we do?? and other questions

2020

Kant formulates the question “What ought I do?” as an agent’s question. This is not the only way in which practical reasoning can be approached. A great deal of contemporary work in ethics and political philosophy addresses different, often narrower, questions. Much of it focuses primarily on recipients rather than agents, and so on entitlements or rights rather than on requirements or duties to act, including most obviously discussions of human rights. I will consider some of the consequences and the advantages of starting from each of these questions, and some of the ways in which each shapes practical reasoning.

The Making and Unmaking of Precarity : Some Concluding Remarks

2015

We live in societies in which the making and unmaking of precarity has a structuring power. In the labour market, precarity is created through laws and practices that reduce protections and benefits; but the labour market itself is also the place where precarity can be unmade through (at least partial) de-commodification and re-regulation. Precarity also penetrates people’s lives and mechanisms of identification, with practices of producing stigma but also of resisting it. Not by chance, the making and unmaking of precarity has become a central focus for contentious politics through the definition of the new subject of the precariat, and the struggles against precarity as a stripping of fun…
