Measurement of branching fractions and charge asymmetries for exclusive B decays to charmonium
2005
We report measurements of branching fractions and charge asymmetries of exclusive decays of neutral and charged B mesons into two-body final states containing a charmonium state and a light strange meson. The charmonium mesons considered are J/Psi, Psi(2S) and Chi_c1, and the light meson is either K or K*. We use a sample of about 124 million BBbar events collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage ring at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center.
On the regularity and defect sequence of monomial and binomial ideals
2018
When S is a polynomial ring or more generally a standard graded algebra over a field K, with homogeneous maximal ideal m, it is known that for an ideal I of S, the regularity of powers of I becomes eventually a linear function, i.e., reg(Im) = dm + e for m ≫ 0 and some integers d, e. This motivates writing reg(Im) = dm + em for every m ⩾ 0. The sequence em, called the defect sequence of the ideal I, is the subject of much research and its nature is still widely unexplored. We know that em is eventually constant. In this article, after proving various results about the regularity of monomial ideals and their powers, we give several bounds and restrictions on em and its first differences when…
On the reactivity of nitrosoimidazoles with acids (the Cusmano–Ruccia reaction): a continuous source of new ring-into-ring interconversion
2014
Abstract An extension of the ‘Cusmano–Ruccia’ reaction is reported. 6-(4-chlorophenyl)-3-methyl-5-nitrosoimidazo[2,1- b ]oxazole by the action of hydrochloric acid gives 3-(4-chlorobenzoyl)-5-methyl-1,2,4-oxadiazole ( 13 ); presumably via ammonium ion, CO 2 and methanol elimination. The relevance of the nature of the atom of the B -ring linked to C-2 of the imidazole for the occurrence of the ring-into-ring interconversion has been once more confirmed.
Effect of water level and climatic factors on the radial growth of black alder
2011
Effect of water level and climatic factors on the radial growth of black alder Black alder (Alnus glutinosa (L.) Gaertn.) is a widespread tree species in Europe and the western part of the temperate climate zone. The area of forest in Latvia dominated by this tree species has substantially decreased due to wide-spread forest drainage. To predict future changes due to environmental change, it is extremely important to understand the function of ecosystems with black alder and their dynamics. Tree rings can be used as a proxy of past environmental factors. The aim of the study was to determine the effects of meteorological and hydrological factors on radial growth of black alder at two study …

Multipactor Mitigation in Coaxial Lines by Means of Permanent Magnets
2014
The main aim of this paper is the analysis of the feasibility of employing permanent magnets for the multipactor mitigation in a coaxial waveguide. First, the study of a coaxial line immersed in a uniform axial magnetic field shows that multipactor can be suppressed at any RF if the external magnetic field is strong enough. Both theoretical simulations and experimental tests validate this statement. Next, multipactor breakdown of a coaxial line immersed in a hollow cylindrical permanent magnet is analyzed. Numerical simulations show that multipactor can be suppressed in a certain RF range. The performed experimental test campaign demonstrates the capability of the magnet to avoid the multip…
Demyelination patterns in a mathematical model of multiple sclerosis.
2016
In this paper we derive a reaction-diffusion-chemotaxis model for the dynamics of multiple sclerosis. We focus on the early inflammatory phase of the disease characterized by activated local microglia, with the recruitment of a systemically activated immune response, and by oligodendrocyte apoptosis. The model consists of three equations describing the evolution of macrophages, cytokine and apoptotic oligodendrocytes. The main driving mechanism is the chemotactic motion of macrophages in response to a chemical gradient provided by the cytokines. Our model generalizes the system proposed by Calvez and Khonsari (Math Comput Model 47(7–8):726–742, 2008) and Khonsari and Calvez (PLos ONE 2(1):e…
Mutational analysis of the RNA-binding domain of the Prunus necrotic ringspot virus (PNRSV) movement protein reveals its requirement for cell-to-cell…
2005
AbstractThe movement protein (MP) of Prunus necrotic ringspot virus (PNRSV) is required for cell-to-cell movement. MP subcellular localization studies using a GFP fusion protein revealed highly punctate structures between neighboring cells, believed to represent plasmodesmata. Deletion of the RNA-binding domain (RBD) of PNRSV MP abolishes the cell-to-cell movement. A mutational analysis on this RBD was performed in order to identify in vivo the features that govern viral transport. Loss of positive charges prevented the cell-to-cell movement even though all mutants showed a similar accumulation level in protoplasts to those observed with the wild-type (wt) MP. Synthetic peptides representin…

Life span, dispersal and age of nesting Great Grey Owls (Strix nebulosa lapponica) in Sweden.
2016
3,073 Great Grey Owls were banded in Sweden in 1955–2012. 416 were controlled at least once (54.6%) or recovered dead (45.4%). Three birds banded as nestlings were recovered in their 17th calendar year. Most birds were recovered during first year of life. Only 4 females were controlled breeding as 2CY birds. 91.3% of birds controlled as first time breeders were at least 4CY. Birds banded as nestlings and recovered dead between September and July moved 100.8 km (mean) with a median distance of 64 km. Juveniles controlled alive moved 45.9 km (mean) with a median distance of 23 km during first year of life. Maximum natal dispersal was 650 km. Median natal dispersal for females was 40 km, betwe…
