DeTreex Inductive Knowledge Acquisition System in Project Risk Assessment

2016

The aim of this paper is to present the possibility of employing DeTreex inductive knowledge acquisition system in project risk assessment. DeTreex from AITECH Artificial Intelligence Laboratory is a system for knowledge acquisition implementing the inductive machine learning method. Induction in the knowledge acquisition system draws on the induction of decision trees proposed by Quinlan. DeTreex was used to carry out the analysis of data elaborated for the purposes of project risk assessment. The problem of acquisition of knowledge of potential project risk sources, the structuring and processing of such knowledge is, in the case of project management, a relatively new and not fully resear…

A cost efficiency analysis of flood proofing measures for hydraulic risk mitigation in an Urbanized riverine area

2020

Non-structural measures for flood risk mitigation are often more economically accessible, easier to implement, and are highly effective, especially in view of the pursuit of risk resilience objectives. Among the non-structural measures, more importance is increasingly being attributed to flood proofing interventions. There are two main types of flood proofing: dry proofing and wet proofing. An example of dry proofing is shielding, which involves the use of flood barriers that can be installed in the entrances of buildings or outside the buildings in order to avoid contact with the houses and deviate the water flow. Their use must be supported by a detailed hydraulic analysis to ensure the c…

INTRODUCING A THEORETIC MODEL AND AN EMPIRIC NORM FOR INFORMATION RISK MANAGEMENT IN DECISION MAKING

2017

Nowadays computer mediated communication (CMC) and the high volume of computed and stored information is getting a business on its own. Information is collected, aggregated, analyzed and used to create real business advantage and value but also risks within companies and also outside on the markets in a high volume. On the other hand, single individuals still need to deal and interpret this sheer mass of increasing information continuously. The change in information management and handling triggers the ongoing changes in decision makings on the operational level as well as on the strategic level. Information is a good sold itself and triggered an own industry of information brokerage. It op…

Psoriasis and cardiovascular risk: Assessment by cuore project risk score in Italian patients

2013

Background. Psoriasis is a common inflammatory and immune-mediated skin disease. There is growing controversy as to whether cardiovascular risk is elevated in psoriasis. A number of studies suggest a high prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors as well as cardiovascular diseases in psoriasis patients. Objective. The objective of this study was to estimate cardiovascular risk score in psoriasis patients and the relation between cardiovascular risk and psoriasis features. Cardiovascular risk was assessed by CUORE project risk score built within the longitudinal study of the Italian CUORE project and suited to populations with a low rate of coronary heart disease. Results. A case-control stu…

Fire in operating room: The adverse "never" event. Case report, mini-review and medico-legal considerations.

2020

Abstract The patient’s security and safety represent a topic of great importance for public health that led several healthcare organizations in many Countries to share documents to promote risk management and preventing adverse events. Surgical Fire (SF) is an infrequent adverse event generally occurring in the operating room (OR) and consisting of a fire that occurs in, on, or around a patient undergoing a medical or surgical procedure. Here a medico-legal case involving a 65-year-old woman reporting burns to the neck due to an SF during a thyroidectomy was described. A literature review was performed using Pubmed and Scopus databases, focusing on epidemiology, causes, prevention activitie…

System Dynamics Models To Support Health Care Companies In Managing Clinical Risk

2011

Clinical risk management has gained an increasing relevance because of the higher monetary and no monetary effects of clinical errors on health care companies' performance. For this reason, different risk management techniques from the industrial sector have been adopted by managers of health care companies in order to reduce the occurrences of errors and their relative impacts. However, these methods, based on a linear and static perspective, do not properly support the health care companies' management in the identification and assessment of policies aimed at improving the clinical risk profile without reducing financial performances. Therefore, it is necessary to adopt a systemic and mul…

Knowledge Management in the Project Life Cycle - Initial Research on Polish Smes

2014

Abstract Contemporary organizations run their activities in an environment, which might be defined as fully uncertain and turbulent. Due to variations that occur in the surrounding environment, an increased attention of management practitioners and theoreticians is paid to new management concepts frequently in an integrated version. The authors express a deep belief that consolidation of approaches to project management and knowledge management constitutes a response to challenge for modern organizations. Research into the issue was based on an attempt to determine significance of the knowledge management issue in a life of projects performed by Polish small and medium-sized enterprises (SM…
