An investigation of the stability of free and glucuronidated 11-nor-delta9-tetrahydrocannabinol-9-carboxylic acid in authentic urine samples.
2004
Preanalytical stability of a drug and its major metabolites is an important consideration in pharmacokinetic studies or whenever the analyte pattern is used to estimate drug habits. Firstly, the stability of free and glucuronidated 11-nor-delta9-tetrahydrocannabinol-9-carboxylic acid (THCCOOH, THCCOOglu) in authentic urine samples was investigated. Random urine samples of cannabis users (n = 38) were stored at -20, 4, and 20 degrees C up to 15 days and up to 5 days at 40 degrees C, and alterations of the analyte pattern during storage were followed by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. Secondly, the influence of pH (range 5.0-8.0) on the stability of the analytes was studied us…
Understanding the potential benefits of thyme and its derived products for food industry and consumer health: From extraction of value-added compound…
2018
Natural bioactive compounds isolated from several aromatic plants have been studied for centuries due to their unique characteristics that carry great importance in food, and pharmaceutical, and cosmetic industries. For instance, several beneficial activities have been attributed to some specific compounds found in Thymus such as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antimicrobial, and antiseptic properties. Moreover, these compounds are classified as Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) which means they can be used as an ingrident of may food producs. Conventional extraction processes of these compounds and their derived forms from thyme leaves are well established. Hoewever, they present some im…
Antiviral activity of alginate-oleic acid based coatings incorporating green tea extract on strawberries and raspberries
2018
Foodborne illnesses caused by the consumption of berries contaminated with human enteric viruses, namely human noroviruses (NoVs) and the hepatitis A virus (HAV), remain a significant food safety concern. The objective of this research was to investigate a food-grade edible coating composed of alginate/oleic and containing green tea extract (GTE) as an antiviral agent for the preservation of fresh strawberries and raspberries. Berries were stored at ambient (25 °C) temperature and refrigerated (10 °C) conditions. Initially, the effect of the pH of the film-forming dispersions (FFD) on their antioxidant and antiviral activity was analysed. Then, the physicochemical properties of edible algin…
Workplace Health Promotion Program on Using Dietary Antioxidants (Anthocyanins) in Chemical Exposed Workers
2012
Abstract Workplace health promotion is a business management system that aims to promote and improve the health situations of all employees in a comprehensive and sustainable mode, and should be seen as an equal partner for occupational health and safety. Certain industrial hazards (in particular chemical agents) display oxidant capacity in the human body acting via oxidative stress, caused by a cellular excess of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species. Species like superoxide and hydrogen peroxide are involved in protein kinase regulation, while nitric oxide and peroxynitrite inactivate phosphatases as well as activating kinases, which are key agents for translating signals of cell needs int…
Perceived benefits and constraints in vehicle automation: Data to assess the relationship between driver's features and their attitudes towards auton…
2019
This data article examines the association driver's features, perceptions and attitudes towards autonomous vehicles (AVs). The data was collected using a structured self-administrable and online-based questionnaire, applied to a full sample of 1205 Spanish drivers. The data contains 4 parts: the full set of bivariate correlations between study variables; descriptive statistics and graphical trends for each main study variable according to gender, age group and city/town size; and, finally, the dataset for further explorations in this regard. For more information, it is convenient to read the full article entitled “Perceived safety and attributed value as predictors of the intention to use a…
LE CHIESE IN LEGNO DELLA LITUANIA - WOODEN CHURCHES OF LITHUANIA
2017
Lithuania have a great variety of wooden architec- tures, among which the churches emerge for their quality and construction characters, prevailing the use of local materials. The strong link between architecture and the uncontaminated nature of places defines the identity of architectures, so that they sometimes appear almost like a large wooden sculpture, carved in a unique piece. The meticulous knowledge of the buildings has created an atlas of construction techniques, proposing itself as a tool for the conservation and preservation of refined building heritage; the atlas is divided according to themes as wood species, processing methods, construc- tion phases, mutual relationship betwee…
Mapping child maltreatment risk: a 12-year spatio-temporal analysis of neighborhood influences.
2017
Abstract Background ‘Place’ matters in understanding prevalence variations and inequalities in child maltreatment risk. However, most studies examining ecological variations in child maltreatment risk fail to take into account the implications of the spatial and temporal dimensions of neighborhoods. In this study, we conduct a high-resolution small-area study to analyze the influence of neighborhood characteristics on the spatio-temporal epidemiology of child maltreatment risk. Methods We conducted a 12-year (2004–2015) small-area Bayesian spatio-temporal epidemiological study with all families with child maltreatment protection measures in the city of Valencia, Spain. As neighborhood units…
Imaging in the catheterization laboratory
1993
Recent work confirms that visual assessment of the effect of widely employed coronary interventions is highly inaccurate. Rapid and reliable on-line angiographic quantitation is a useful advance, but problems in the application of the technique are encountered in a substantial number of cases. New algorithms have been devised to provide a comprehensive assessment of the geometry and likely functional significance of lesions as well as an objective evaluation of lesion morphology, and recent work has provided the framework for the quantitation of diffuse disease. Studies with intravascular ultrasound confirm the inadequate sensitivity of angiography in demonstrating mild to moderate atheroma…
Examining the effect of adverse weather on road transportation using weather and traffic sensors.
2018
Adverse weather related to reduced visibility caused by fog and rain can seriously affect the mobility and safety of drivers. It is meaningful to develop effective intelligent transportation system (ITS) strategies to mitigate the negative effects of these different types of adverse weather related to reduced visibility by investigating the effect of rain and fog on traffic parameters. A number of previous researches focused on analyzing the effect of adverse weather related to reduced visibility by using simulated traffic and weather data. There are few researchers that addressed the impact of adverse weather instances using real-time data. Moreover, this paper conducts comprehensive inves…
Attitudes of Undergraduate Nursing Students towards Patient Safety: A Quasi-Experimental Study
2021
Improving nursing students’ attitudes towards patient safety is a current and relevant topic. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of an educational intervention based on critical incident and root cause analysis (RCA) techniques regarding attitudes towards patient safety in nursing students. A quasi-experimental before and after study was developed between January 2018 and December 2019 in a sample of 100 nursing students at Universitat Jaume I (Spain). The intervention was developed in two phases. Phase I was at university, where students applied the RCA technique in a real case. Phase II took place during clinical practice. Students used critical incidents to identify a risk sit…
