This retrospective cohort study aimed to analyze the clinical manifestations, complications, and maternal-fetal outcomes in patients affected by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection during delivery. The cohort included 61 pregnant women positive for SARS-CoV-2 infection at the time of delivery. Patients were divided into two groups: symptomatic and asymptomatic. The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has not finished yet, and the most promising option towards its ending is widespread vaccination. Because patients with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs), namely Crohn’s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC), often require immune-modifying treatment, which might increase the risk of opportunistic infection,1 their vaccination history for several infectious diseases is routinely checked, and when inadequate, vaccination is performed at diagnosis or ideally before immune suppressive treatment is started.1 However, IBD patients were not found to be at an increased risk of developing COVID-19 or of experiencing a more severe disease course.2

The aim was to investigate the effectiveness of glucocorticoid therapy in patients with COVID-19. A systematic search of the literature across nine databases was conducted from inception until 15th March 2020, following the PRISMA guidelines. Patients with a validated diagnosis of COVID-19 and using corticosteroids were included, considering all health outcomes. Four studies with 542 Chinese participants were included. Two studies reported negative findings regarding the use of corticosteroids in patients with COVID-19, i.e., corticosteroids had a detrimental impact on clinical outcomes.
