The Sicilian sparkling wine. A Simple Correspondence Analysis (SCA) to know consumer preferences
2010
Sicilian territory vocation to the production of wines is a prerequisite needed to ensure a large variety of high quality products. Thanks to native cultivar and to non-native, with good adaptability, Sicilian wine firms diversified production, very appreciated by national and international markets, and expanded the supply of sparkling wines. Indeed, Sicily produces sparkling wines since the past century and now there are 21 Sicilian wineries that produce up to 33 different high quality sparkling wines with typical attributes of the territory and many denomination of origin (DOC). In 2008, Italy saw a significant drop in purchases for Champagne wine, which can definitely be seen as a great …
SNP and SML estimation of univariate and bivariate binary–choice models
2008
We discuss the semi-nonparametric approach of Gallant and Nychka (1987, Econometrica 55: 363–390), the semiparametric maximum likelihood approach of Klein and Spady (1993, Econometrica 61: 387–421), and a set of new Stata commands for semiparametric estimation of three binary-choice models. The first is a univariate model, while the second and the third are bivariate models without and with sample selection, respectively. The proposed estimators are root-n consistent and asymptotically normal for the model parameters of interest under weak assumptions on the distribution of the underlying error terms. Our Monte Carlo simulations suggest that the efficiency losses of the semi-nonparametric a…

Jorge Lozano e la semiotica della storia
2008
Structure/Structuralism
2020
The first issue of Word, the Journal of the Linguistic Circle of New York, published in April 1945 by Roman Jakobson and André Martinet, both exiles living in the USA, features one of the first articles by Claude Lévi-Strauss (1958) (L’analyse structurale en linguistique et en anthropologie) and the last essay by Ernst Cassirer (2002) (Structuralism in Modern Linguistics), who died a few weeks before its publi cation. This is the official birth of structuralism, a term seemingly coined by the author of Philosophie der symbolischen Formen in his posthumous essay with its testimonial quality.
Woman in The Armies of The Night
2009
Abstrakti Tämä tutkielma analysoi naisen ja naiseuden kuvauksia Norman Mailerin teoksessa The Armies of The Night. Tutkimusmenetelminä käytettiin Greimasin strukturaalista semantiikkaa ja Kristevan semanalyysia. Greimasin strukturaalisen semantiikan keinoin muodostettiin naisen ja naiseuden semanttinen rakenne niistä termeistä, joita Mailer naisten kuvauksessa käyttää. Kristevan semanalyysilla selitetään tämän rakenteen merkitystä psykoanalyyttisen tulkinnan kannalta. Tutkielma on avoimesti poliittinen, päämääränään paljastaa naisvihamielinen painotus Mailerin teoksessa. Analyysin tulokset osoittivat, että The Armies of The Night sisältää naisvihamielisen tendenssin. Tämä käy yksiin Millett…
IDENTIFICATION OF BACTERIAL TAXA IN ARCHAEOLOGICAL WATERLOGGED WOOD
2014
Summary The microscopic and molecular techniques described in this study are aimed at understanding the degradation processes of the anatomical structure of submerged archaeological wood, correlating it to the degradation induced by bacteria. The SEM micrographs showed alterations of the wooden structure due to bacterial colonization, as well as the presence of pyrite framboids. The difficulty of extracting bacterial DNA from wooden fragments belonging to submerged finds is well-known, due to the presence of many inhibitors; this study describes some extraction and in vitro amplification protocols for wooden submerged finds. The results of the molecular investigations, based on the analysis…
FRAME MODELIZATION OF DISCOURSE PRESSURES ON INFORMATION TRANSFER AND TEXTUAL ORGANIZATION OF A TEXT GENRE.
2023
The present article aims at investigating the discursive pressures at the phrasal and textual level for a text genre, here wine advertisements from Austrian supermarket leaflets. After having developed the theoretical framework of Germanic inspiration, a case study is conducted to highlight these discursive pressures.
Use of a Semantic Language to Reduce the Indeterminacy in Agents Communication
2014
In the field of agent communications uncertainty and vagueness in the message content and in the achievable results play a primordial role when two agents (human or artificial) communicate. Even though the importance of vagueness and uncertainty has been recognized long ago, only recently mechanisms related to the communications’ semantics that allow a practical approach have been designed; more specifically, the development of tools such as agent programming languages and frameworks, which is a field of intensive research. On the other hand, recent theoretical ideas, drawn from situation semantics theory and the works of Sutton on semantic information, support this work. This paper applies…
