Il servizio sociale: ponte e porto relazionale
2020
A broadening horizon: intervention in the field of migration as a path towards internationalization for Italian social work
2022
Due to a significant increase in migration flows to Italy over the last four decades, professional social work in Italy has been confronted with the ‘internationalization of social problems’ (Dominelli 2010) over these forty years. This fast and prolific process of immigration has forced institutions to deal with issues for which our society, policies, and service system, have not been properly prepared. This highlights the need to provide updated training to social workers regarding the ‘trans‐cultural approach’, to facilitate understanding of the meanings and the cultural models and the processes of care and assistance. Despite a substantial and well‐established commitment in the area of …
I servizi socio-educativi nell’era del digitale. Sfide e opportunità
2022
The pandemic has played a catalyst role in the digitization processes of services and relationships between professionals and people, highlighting the existence of a "minimum technological vital" (Campedelli, Toc-cafondi and Vignani, 2021) which can draw the line between social inclusion and exclusion. The measures introduced to deal with the spread of the virus have imposed rapid transformations and, in just a few weeks, digital technologies have been integrated into all aspects of professional life, showing positive and negative effects (Lopez et al., 2020) . The introduction of numerous platforms, the use of which has exploded during the quarantine, has provided previously overlooked, if…
(Homosexual) Male Sex Work: Sociological Representations, Social Realities and New Normalizations
2016
Homosexual male sex work is undoubtedly a complex phenomenon, underestimated and overlooked not just in scientific research,2 but also in social policy. The social realities of sex work, as well as the sex workers themselves, are often pigeonholed and confused with various other phenomena (including child abuse; paedophilia; human trafficking and exploitation; drug use and addiction, etc.), which, though they may sometimes be involved, have swayed the focus of research. The present chapter will discuss main sociological perspectives on male sex work.
Il servizio sociale nell'emergenza. Esperienze e prospettive dall'Abruzzo all'Emilia
2012
In the emergency situations occurred up to today, both at national and international level, very different professionals cooperate: some of these are now perfectly stored in the collective imaginary (doctors, firefighters, logistics experts, law enforcement, etc..), while others (community leaders, educators or social workers) have not yet been fully integrated into the network of the protagonists of the emergency. This mean that social workers - on several occasions and in a more or less structured and recognized ways - have been shown to possess extraordinary skills in this field; experience on the ground, in fact, shows how their contribution can be relevant and constructive already in t…
“Without social there is no health”: Social work perspectives in multidisciplinary healthcare
2022
The pandemic has not just affected the health sphere: strong social effects of the emergency have added to the health risk, stressing on social relations and the deterioration of people's living conditions, and making those who are already fragile more fragile. Notwithstanding, during the emergency following the COVID-19 pandemic the attention was focused, indeed understandably, on the health aspects, widening the already existing misalignment between the health interventions and the social ones. Emergency oriented efforts and resources more toward a clinical care approach (cure) than toward support for the social and the inclusion aspects (care). Reflecting on the specific area of health c…
Social Work with Refugees and Migrants in Italy
2021
Social Work in Italy has been tackling the internal migration phenomenon since the post-WW II period, when more than 1,300,000 Italian citizens from poor southern regions, where employment was scarce, moved to the center and to the industrialized north of Italy (Simone 2016). Since then, and as early as the late 1980s, social workers have had to deal with flows of migrants and refugees from other countries. Faced with the growing commitment of Social Work to the field of migration, the professional community has been called to reassess both the training of social workers and the updating of methodology and functions, especially with regard to the adaptation of professional work and ser- vic…
