Age-Related Changes in Astrocytic and Ependymal Cells of the Subventricular Zone
2014
Neurogenesis persists in the adult subventricular zone (SVZ) of the mammalian brain. During aging, the SVZ neurogenic capacity undergoes a progressive decline, which is attributed to a decrease in the population of neural stem cells (NSCs). However, the behavior of the NSCs that remain in the aged brain is not fully understood. Here we performed a comparative ultrastructural study of the SVZ niche of 2-month-old and 24-month-old male C57BL/6 mice, focusing on the NSC population. Using thymidine-labeling, we showed that residual NSCs in the aged SVZ divide less frequently than those in young mice. We also provided evidence that ependymal cells are not newly generated during senescence, as ot…

The lizard cerebral cortex as a model to study neuronal regeneration
2002
The medial cerebral cortex of lizards, an area homologous to the hippocampal fascia dentata, shows delayed postnatal neurogenesis, i.e., cells in the medial cortex ependyma proliferate and give rise to immature neurons, which migrate to the cell layer. There, recruited neurons differentiate and give rise to zinc containing axons directed to the rest of cortical areas, thus resulting in a continuous growth of the medial cortex and its zinc-enriched axonal projection. This happens along the lizard life span, even in adult lizards, thus allowing one of their most important characteristics: neuronal regeneration. Experiments in our laboratory have shown that chemical lesion of the medial cortex…
Adipose Stromal/Stem Cell-Derived Extracellular Vesicles: Potential Next-Generation Anti-Obesity Agents
2022
Over the last decade, several compounds have been identified for the treatment of obesity. However, due to the complexity of the disease, many pharmacological interventions have raised concerns about their efficacy and safety. Therefore, it is important to discover new factors involved in the induction/progression of obesity. Adipose stromal/stem cells (ASCs), which are mostly isolated from subcutaneous adipose tissue, are the primary cells contributing to the expansion of fat mass. Like other cells, ASCs release nanoparticles known as extracellular vesicles (EVs), which are being actively studied for their potential applications in a variety of diseases. Here, we focused on the importance …

Programación de microrrobots por bloques
2016

3AB-OS, a human osteosarcoma stem-like cell line, potential model for studying cancer
2012
In human osteosarcoma 3AB-OS cancer stem cells let-7d seems to have the dual function of oncogene/tumor-suppressor miRNA
2015
Introduction: Osteosarcoma (OS), an aggressive tumor a!ecting adolescents, shows therapy resistance and recurrence which can depend on cancer stem cells (CSCs), the source for tissue renewal and hold malignant potential; thus, OS treatment requires their eradication. Here, using 3AB-OS CSCs previously obtained from the OS-MG63 cells, we focused on the role of let-7d in managing stemness properties of 3AB-OS CSCs. Methods: 3AB-OS CSCs were stably transfected with pCDomH-plasmid, containing mir-let7-d, or empty vector as a control. Cell proliferation and viability were evaluated by EdU and Trypan blue assays, respectively. Sarcosphere and colony assays and wound healing and transwell invasion…
