Abstract In situ delivery of liquid reagents in vadose zone is limited by soil anisotropy and gravity. The enhanced delivery of persulfate (PS) as oxidant, using a new foam-based method (F-PS) was compared at bench-scale to traditional water-based (W-PS) and surfactant solution-based (S-PS) deliveries. The goal was to distribute PS uniformly in coal tar-contaminated unsaturated and anisotropic soils, both in terms of permeability and contamination. Water was the less efficiently delivered fluid because of the hydrophobicity of the contaminated soils. This paper presents the strain energy density parameter used for fatigue life calculation under random loading by two methods. The first method is based on schematization of energy parameter histories with the rain flow algorithm. The other one is based on moments of the power spectral density function of the energy parameter. ABSTRACT A softened strut-and-tie macro model able to reproduce the flexural behaviour of external beam-column joint is presented. The model is specific for concrete with hooked steel fibres (FRC) and it is designed to calculate the flexural response, as load-deflection curve, of a beam-column sub-assemblages. The model considers the presence of a constant vertical load acting on the column and of a monotonically increasing lateral force applied at the tip of the beam.

Abstract We studied if the levels of copper released from antifouling treated nets used in finfish mariculture could affect the immune defense mechanism and/or induce oxidative stress in Dicentrarchus labrax , after short term exposure in laboratory experiments. Dissolved copper concentration released from the treated nets, copper bioavailability and a set of biomarkers responses were measured. Biomarkers included hemoglobin concentration, activities of lysozyme, total complement, respiratory burst, glutathione S-transferase and acetycholinesterase and concentration of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances. The sponge siliceous spicules are formed enzymatically via silicatein, in contrast to other siliceous biominerals. Originally, silicatein had been described as a major structural protein of the spicules that has the property to allow a specific deposition of silica onto their surface.
