Thermally Induced Structural Modification of Silica Nanoparticles Investigated by Raman and Infrared Absorption Spectroscopies

We report an experimental investigation by Raman and infrared (IR) absorption spectroscopies on the structural modifications induced by isochronal thermal treatments on amorphous SiO2 nanoparticles (fumed silica). In particular, three different commercial types of this material, characterized by particle mean diameters of 7, 14, and 40 nm, were subjected to thermal treatments from 100 up to 1000 °C. We found that some properties of fumed silica, such as the SiOSi mean bond angle, ring size distribution, and surface adsorbed water content, are drastically different from those of common bulk silica materials and intimately related to the particles' dimension. Il X20 è una camera funeraria quadrangolare preceduta da un dromos che deriva da un preesistente arcosolio bisomo. Al suo interno accoglie 29 sepolture: dodici arcosoli per adulti e per bambini, una tomba a nicchia, due tombe a cassa e quattordici fosse pavimentali. Si è potuto accertare che l’aspetto attuale del cubicolo è il risultato di quattro fasi costruttive. Alla prima fase appartiene la decorazione ad affresco con temi floreali e vegetali, che riveste la parete settentrionale. The western Calabria continental margin forms the transition between the Pliocene to Recent Marsili spreading center and continental Calabria, all parts of the upper plate of the Ionian subduction zone. Integrating high-resolution and crustal seismic images constrained by gravity modeling, we provide a detailed reconstruction of the architecture of the margin and develop a new scheme for its Miocene to present evolution. Fore-arc Deformation in the Paola Basin Segment (Offshore Western Calabria) of the Tyrrhenian‐Ionian Subduction System

The 3D stratigraphic architecture and Late Neogene to Recent tectonic evolution of the Paola Basin (offshore western Calabria), a segment in the fore-arc of the Tyrrhenian‐Ionian subduction system, is reconstructed by using a grid of high-penetration reflection seismics. Oligocene to Messinian deposits are interpreted all along the profile. They tend to fossilize preexisting topography and reach the largest thicknesses between (fault controlled) basement highs. Plio‐ Quaternary deposits are found over the entire area and display variations in thickness and tectonic style.
