2021
For nearly four centuries, the cult of St. Roch in Dobrzeń Wielki has been nurtured. In 1658, a church was built there as a token of gratitude that the prayers of the faithful had been heard and the plague had stopped. Peoples responses to the epidemics which they had experienced varied widely. They were treated as misfortunes accompanying natural disasters, which resulted in poverty and hunger. They were also a consequence ofman-made wars. Their frequent occurrence was influenced by poor hygienic conditions in which they used to live. Doctors did not also have much experience in combating infectious diseases. They were often treated as a divine punishment for sins. Therefore, efforts were …
Shaping women's agency through temporality in "The life and activity of the holy and blessed teacher Syncletica"
2020
The present article attempts to discuss the relationship between two female characters, Thecla and Syncletica, against the wider theoretical background of temporality as it was perceived and construed through literary texts. Syncletica is portrayed as a ‘disciple’ of Thecla. However, while the apocryphal Acts of Paul and Thecla appear to be pervaded with an eschatological expectation, the Life of Saint Syncletica shows signs of a different temporality. The detailed description of the whole life of Syncletica, with an emphasis on the course of illness, reveals a temporality more focused on the stages of life. Building on this evidence, I aim to identify a set of key features that…

Wizerunek św. Floriana jako symbol heraldyczny w niektórych herbach polskich gmin i miast
2016
2021
The duty of the Church is to solemnly celebrate the saving work of Jesus Christ throughout the year on fixed days. Life has shown that feasts were gradually established through which the Mother of God, Mary, was honoured. In addition, there were introduced numerous commemorations of martyrs and other saints who became examples for successive generations of Christ’s followers how to heroically fulfil the principles contained in the Gospel. Thus, the liturgical year developed over the centuries as a result of a specific evolution influenced by various conditions. The dates and rules of celebrating particular celebrations were regulated by liturgical calendars. The process of development and a…
When other rules defend dissidents : the situation of Protestants and Orthodox Christians in the Polish - Lithuanian Commonwealth of the Saxon era
2018
The article address the problem of limiting the rights of Protestants and other non-Catholic Christian denominations during the reigns of two kings from the Wettin dynasty - King Augustus II (1697-1733). The process started as early as the second half of the 17th century, but it was fully accomplished in the years 1717-1736. In the article the author discussed the resolutions of the sejms and other legal acts introduced at that time, the aim of which was to eliminate dissenters from public life. The Polish monarchs were inert towards the process. It was the rulers of non - Catholic European states (Prussia, Russia and Great Britain) that helped Protestants an Orthodox Christans in Poland
Corpo a corpo. Agoni e danze cerimoniali nella Sicilia contemporanea
2018
the choreutical movements of the statues of saints are still today a constitutive and qualifying component of the ritual process of numerous Sicilian religious festivals, in particular those of Easter and the spring-summer ones of the patron saints. The races and dances of the Risen Christ and of the saints are generally accompanied by competitions, struggles, displays of virile attitudes, erotic allusions, the display of gold and evergreen fronds, the consumption of peculiar foods and desserts or a set of ritual symbols of an orgiastic nature which, in referring to an experience of the agro-pastoral world, appear as originally intended to celebrate and promote, at critical moments, the cos…
