Avian migration is naturally a plastic trait, and tracking migratory birds is problematic because of distances and areas involved. Electronic data loggers (e.g. light-level geolocators, GPS/GSM tags, etc) provide a means to directly follow several individuals and understand migration routes and geographic patterns of population displacements in overwintering areas. In this article we refer to the market of vehicular networks, where groups of customers located in the same public vehicle (e.g., a train or bus) connect to a terrestrial network through a wireless/satellite backbone link. Elastic buffering is a proxy management technique devised to decouple the multimedia information retrieval rate on the network backbone from the playout streaming rate at the user terminal. Isolation of the DNA minisatellite probe MZ 1.3 and its application to DNA ‘fingerprinting’ analysis

Abstract A minisatellite probe, MZ 1.3, detecting hypervariable fragment patterns was isolated from a human genomic library. A repetitive sequence of 27 bp length was identified which is contained in the probe approx. 40 times. The MZ 1.3 repeat shows variable homology of 53–73% to the repetitive sequence of the protein III gene of the bacteriophage M13 genome. Polymorphic restriction fragment patterns were found with MZ 1.3 using the enzymes Hinf I, BstN I, Hae III, Mbo I, PstI PvuII , and Rsa I. Modelling of ERS-2 radar backscattering over rocky arid regions

This paper discusses the potential of radar signals to characterize stone cover over bare soil surfaces in arid rocky regions. Ground truth and radar measurements were made over two arid sites: Avdat (Israel) and Foumtillich (Morocco). An empirical approach is proposed to derive stone cover percentage from pin profiler measurements. A numerical Moment method based on integral equations of backscattering has been used to study the influence of stone cover on simulated radar signal. The results of the simulations are compared with European Remote Sensing Satellite (ERS-2) radar measurements over test areas with different stone covers. Multipactor Analysis in Coaxial Waveguides for Satellite Applications using Frequency-Domain Methods

This work presents the analysis, manufacturing and testing of a coaxial sample in order to investigate the multipactor effect in this kind of waveguide structures. Several in-home and commercial software have been used to design a quarter-wave transformer coaxial circuit centered at 1.35 GHz. The multipactor analysis of this device has been carried out allowing the prediction of the RF breakdown multipactor threshold. Moreover, the multipactor onset of such a prototype has been measured showing a very good agreement with our simulations. In addition to this, comparison has been also done with results from the technical literature fully validating the new algorithm developed.
NMR Spectroscopic and quantum chemical characterization of the (E)- and (Z)- isomers of the penta-1,3-dienyl-2-cation

Dilute solutions of the (E )− and (Z )− isomers of pent-1,3-dienyl-2-cations (1) were obtained from reaction of 4-chloro-1,2-pentadiene (2) with SbF5 in SO2ClF/SO2F2 at −135 °C using high-vacuum co-condensation techniques. The experimental NMR spectra of the mixture of the two isomers were compared with quantum chemical 13C NMR chemical shift calculations at HF-SCF, MP2, CCSD and CCSD(T) levels using MP2/tzp geometries. The DArk Matter Particle Explorer (DAMPE), one of the four scientific space science missions within the framework of the Strategic Pioneer Program on Space Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, is a general purpose high energy cosmic-ray and gamma-ray observatory, which was successfully launched on December 17th, 2015 from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center. The DAMPE scientific objectives include the study of galactic cosmic rays up to $\sim 10$ TeV and hundreds of TeV for electrons/gammas and nuclei respectively, and the search for dark matter signatures in their spectra.
