Synthesis and Antitumor Activity of New Thiazole Nortopsentin Analogs
2016
New thiazole nortopsentin analogs in which one of the two indole units was replaced by a naphthyl and/or 7-azaindolyl portion, were conveniently synthesized. Among these, three derivatives showed good antiproliferative activity, in particular against MCF7 cell line, with GI50 values in the micromolar range. Their cytotoxic effect on MCF7 cells was further investigated in order to elucidate their mode of action. Results showed that the three compounds act as pro-apoptotic agents inducing a clear shift of viable cells towards early apoptosis, while not exerting necrotic effects. They also caused cell cycle perturbation with significant decrease in the percentage of cells in the G0/G1 and S ph…
Synthesis of the New Ring System Bispyrido[4',3':4,5]pyrrolo [1,2-a:1',2'-d]pyrazine and Its Deaza Analogue
2014
Derivatives of the new ring systems bispyrido[4',3':4,5]pyrrolo[1,2-a:1',2'-d] pyrazine-6,13-dione and its deaza analogue pyrido[4'',3'':4',5']pyrrolo-[1',2':4,5]pyrazino [1,2-a]indole-6,13-dione were conveniently synthesized through a four-step sequence. Symmetrical derivatives of the former ring system were obtained through self condensation. On the other hand, condensation of 6-azaindole carboxylic acid with indole 2-carboxylic acid afforded the deaza analogue ring system. Derivatives of the title ring system were tested by the National Cancer Institute (Bethesda, MD, USA) and four of them exhibited modest activity against MCF7 (a breast cancer cell line) and/or UO-31 (a renal cancer cel…
3-(6-Phenylimidazo [2,1-
2019
A new series of imidazo[2,1-b][1,3,4]thiadiazole derivatives was efficiently synthesized and screened for their in vitro antiproliferative activity on a panel of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) cells, including SUIT-2, Capan-1 and Panc-1. Compounds 9c and 9l, showed relevant in vitro antiproliferative activity on all three pre-clinical models with half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) ranging from 5.11 to 10.8 µM, while the compounds 9e and 9n were active in at least one cell line. In addition, compound 9c significantly inhibited the migration rate of SUIT-2 and Capan-1 cells in the scratch wound-healing assay. In conclusion, our results will support further studies to increa…
Antagonism and Antimicrobial Capacity of Epiphytic and Endophytic Bacteria against the Phytopathogen Xylella fastidiosa
2022
Olive quick decline syndrome (OQDS), which is caused by Xylella fastidiosa, poses a severe threat to the agriculture of Mediterranean countries and causes severe damage to the olive trees in Italy. Since no effective control measures are currently available, the objective of this study was the screening of antagonistic bacteria that are potentially deployable as biocontrol agents against X. fastidiosa. Therefore, two approaches were used, i.e., the evaluation of the antagonistic activity of (i) endophytic bacteria isolated from two different cultivars of olive trees (Leccino and Ogliarola salentina) and (ii) epiphytic bacteria isolated from the phyllospheres of different host plant species …
Spirocurcasone, a diterpenoid with a novel carbon skeleton from Jatropha curcas.
2010
Spirocurcasone (14), a diterpenoid possessing the unprecedented "spirorhamnofolane" skeleton, was isolated from the root barks of Jatropha curcas, a plant extensively cultivated throughout the world, along with 11 known and two other new diterpenoids. The stereostructure of spirocurcasone was established using HRESIMS, NMR, and quantum mechanical calculation of the electronic circular dichroic (ECD) spectrum. Some of the isolated diterpenoids showed a potent activity against L5178Y, a mouse lymphoma cell line.
AB1358 Infectious antibodies repertoire in rheumatoid arthritis
2018
Background The incidence of infectious diseases in the RA ADAPTHERA study by ELISA antibody screening and the differences in infectious distribution in active or low active disease patients was explored. Methods Sera from 88 naive RA patients out of the ADAPTHERA study cohort, disease duration Results 82% RA patients were found to be positive for HSV1 +2 IgG (2% IgM positive), 8% for Adenovirus (IgA), 77% (IgG), and 1% (IgM). 99% for EBV-IgG (no IgM positive). 53% (IgG), and 26% (IgM) for CMV. 38% for HP-IgG and 15% for IgA and 79% for P-B19-IgG (3% IgM). 6% for Borrelia-IgM and 14% for IgG. A slightly increase was found for EBV sera positivity (99% IgG), compared to the normal population. …

Krūts vēža attīstība Latvijā pēc valsts krūts vēža skrīninga programmas ieviešanas
2020
Darba mērķis: veikt Latvijas valsts apmaksāta krūšu skrīninga efektivitātes izpēti laika posmā no 2010…
Computerunterstützte Diagnostik in der Thoraxradiologie - aktuelle Schwerpunkte und Techniken
2003
The proliferation of digital data sets and the increasing amount of images, e. g. through the use of multislice spiral CT or multiple follow-up examinations in the context of new therapies, are ideal prerequisites for computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) in chest radiology. Multiple studies have described the applications and advantages of computer assistance in performing different diagnostic tasks. More powerful computers will enable the introduction of these systems into the clinical routine and could provide an enormous increase in morphological and functional information. The commercial introduction of tools for detection and visualization of pulmonary nodules has already begun. This is one …
“The risk of age”? Early detection test, prostate cancer and practices of self
2010
Abstract Drawing on Rose and Novas’s concept of “biological citizenship” and Michel Foucault's "practices of self", this paper reflects on how men become agents of their own therapeutic regimens, and yet internalise messages of risk and practices of self within early detection of prostate cancer discourses in the late 20th century. In doing so, it traces the ways in which concepts of age, gender and risk converge at the problematic site of prostate cancer and preventative health strategies, both of the state and the medical profession. Analysing how insecurities have simultaneously resulted in over-promoting and over-diagnosing risk, thereby blurring the lines between normal and pathologica…
