Characterization of liver cytokeratin as a major target antigen of anti-SLA antibodies.

1990

Abstract Anti-SLA antibodies characterize a newly defined subgroup of patients with autoimmune chronic active hepatitis. The aim of the present study was the immunochemical characterization of the target antigen(s) of anti-SLA antibodies. Anti-SLA-positive sera were found to contain high titres of anti-cytokeratin antibodies. In immunoblotting analyses with 100 000 × g supernatants of human liver homogenates (S-100) these sera recognized various proteins with a molecular mass of 40–60 kDa. These proteins were also recognized by monoclonal anti-cytokeratin antibodies. Two-dimensional co-electrophoresis and immunoblotting analysis of S-100 and liver cytokeratins showed that anti-SLA antibodie…

Polyclonal antibodies to mannan from yeast also recognize the carbohydrate structure of gp120 of the AIDS virus: an approach to raise neutralizing an…

1990

This study initiates a new method of developing an antigen which might be useful in the prevention of HIV-1 infection. Using a mannan preparation from Saccharomyces cerevisiae neutralizing antiserum was raised in rabbits which prevents HIV-1 infection in vitro up to a titre of 1:128. The corresponding antibody preparation neutralized the in vitro infectivity down to a concentration of 5 micrograms/ml. Analytical studies suggest that the antibodies are directed against the mannose residues of the HIV-1 glycoprotein (gp) 120 and its precursor gp 160.

Influence of DNA damage and repair upon the risk of treatment related leukemia

2008

Therapy-related myelodysplasia and acute myeloid leukemia (t-MDS/AML) are malignancies occurring after exposure to chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy. Several studies have addressed cumulative dose, dose intensity and exposure to specific agents of preceding cytotoxic therapy in relation to the risk of developing such leukemia. Since only a small percentage of patients exposed to cytotoxic therapy develop t-MDS/AML, it has been suggested that some genetic predisposition may be involved, specifically associated to polymorphisms in certain genes involved in chemotherapy/radiotherapy response - fundamentally genes intervening in drug detoxification and DNA synthesis and repair. A review is made …

Interaction of theEscherichia colitransporter DctA with the sensor kinase DcuS: presence of functional DctA/DcuS sensor units

2012

The aerobic Escherichia coli C(4) -dicarboxylate transporter DctA and the anaerobic fumarate/succinate antiporter DcuB function as obligate co-sensors of the fumarate responsive sensor kinase DcuS under aerobic or anaerobic conditions respectively. Overproduction under anaerobic conditions allowed DctA to replace DcuB in co-sensing, indicating their functional equivalence in this capacity. In vivo interaction studies between DctA and DcuS using FRET or a bacterial two-hybrid system (BACTH) demonstrated their interaction. DctA-YFP bound to an affinity column and was able to retain DcuS. DctA shows substantial sequence and secondary structure conservation to Glt(Ph), the Na(+)/glutamate sympo…

MONITORING OF ATYPICAL ANTIPSYCHOTIC DRUGS SUPPLIED BY THE PHARMACY OF FRATELLI PARLAPIANO HOSPITAL, RIBERA (AG), ITALY

2014

Mental disorders are among the worst and widespread health problems, they are associated with important repercussions on the psychosocial sphere and to high economic costs. Antipsychotic drugs used in treatments of these pathologies belong to different chemical classes, but associated to biochemical effects, pharmacological, and in part super imposable. A retrospective survey has been led on external patients, they were under antipsychotic drug treatments already in the archive and arrived to the attention of the Pharmacy of the F.lli Parlapiano Hospital, Ribera (AG), Italy in 2013. For each patient have been extrapolated: gender, date of birth, place of residence, ICD-9CM, pharmacological …
