Successful crisis communication in the public sector : communication experts' views on best practices and quality
2011
Crisis communication measurements have been adopted in many Finnish public sector organizations in past few years, but there has been a little research about how effective the plans and the measurements made are. Focus of this research is to define public sector communication experts’ views on best practices behind crisis communication and clarify how they evaluate quality in crisis communication in the public sector. The aim of the study is also to see the comparison between the theory and the views that the public sector experts have. The study is part of the international research “Developing a Crisis Communication Scorecard, coordinated by the Communication department of University of J…
Irrigation water intensity and climate variability: an agricultural crops analysis of Italian regions
2020
This paper examines the relationship between the requirement of water resources for irrigation and climate variability and analyses the ranking of the best and worst performance of irrigation water intensity for each Italian region. To measure water resources demanded by agriculture, the irrigation water intensity (IWI) indicator has been computed as the ratio between volumes of irrigation water and total crop harvested. By applying panel data methodologies to a regional dataset spanning from 2000 to 2009, we may address heterogeneity and omitted variable issues. By merging meteo-climatic with agricultural variables, we may confirm that water precipitations, maximum temperature, irrigation …
Solidaires, unitaires, démocratiques (SUD) : renouveau du syndicalisme révolutionnaire ?
2004
After 20 years of trade‐union crisis, some new factors seem to be at work. SUD (Solidaires, unitaires, democratiques) is the most innovative grouping to have appeared on the union scene in recent years. Born in 1989 in the Post Office sector, it has risen to become the second most popular union at professional elections in France Telecom and the Post Office. SUD is involved in the G10 (‘Group of Ten’), which provides a common platform for certain independent unions. SUD favours new modes of intervention, a kind of ‘mobilisation unionism’ reminiscent of the CFDT's ‘autogestionnaire’ phase in the 1970s. Although still relatively marginal, SUD unions have been launched in the private sector. D…
Reversing the Trend: a Psychosocial Intervention on Young Immigrants in Sicily
2018
Intervention projects based on providing support for immigrants can offer a number of benefits with regard to the social inclusion of young immigrants. Therefore, the actions suggested in this proposal may not only create a network between institutions and the private sector capable of supporting the intervention of a host country, but may also help to reduce the risk of crime as well as advocating a sense of otherness and integration. The approach to the project, a psychosocial intervention carried out on four young Africans who reached Sicily after crossing the Sicilian Channel on a dilapidated boat, has chiefly been to provide the four individuals with the chance to revisit their origina…

Cultural self-perceptions of German sport organizations in an intersectoral comparison
2012
This paper addresses the question as to how far cultures of sport organizations reflect the business environment and sectoral paradigms they are in. In general, the organization of sport can be assigned to the three economic sectors (non-profit, for-profit, state). Within the theories about organizations, the differences between these economic sectors are stressed time and again. It can be assumed that sport organizations' cultures differ depending on their affiliation to a specific economic sector. In this study, cultural self-perceptions of managers of sport organizations in Germany in the different economic sectors were assessed using a standardized questionnaire. In order to answer the …
Death and Transfiguration : The Late Kim Jong-il Aesthetic in North Korean Cultural Production
2016
This article assesses the official music scene in Pyongyang over a span of five dramatic years, surveying how changes in the field of music from 2009 to 2014 mirrored and in some cases presaged North Korean dynastic succession and political consolidation. The article draws upon a new abundance of performance data on North Korean musical groups, data which we argue is important but has largely been ignored or mischaracterized heretofore. The central crisis dealt with in the article is the decline and demise of Kim Jong-il, the architect of North Korea’s musical culture. In his final years, Kim Jong-il assented to the creation of a new leading musical group known as the Unhasu Orchestra, prom…
International tourism, security and intercultural dialogue in the Arab World
2012
International tourism presents one of the rare possibilities of mass active face-to-face cultural exchange and spatial exploring of the ‘other’. Beyond its cultural dimension, international tourism is a major economic sector in many countries. It provides jobs and foreign currency. One the one hand, tourism is a fragile industry that requires security, stability and tolerance. On the other hand, tourists are soft targets of terrorist attacks, not only in the Arab and Muslim worlds, but indeed worldwide. The article explores the actual and the invented types of segregation in the name of security and terror prevention measures in Arab countries. It demonstrates how the dichotomy of security/…
Le Potenzialità del Trust come Veicolo Istituzionale Prescelto per Responsabilizzare il Terzo Settore nel Recupero e nella Valorizzazione del Patrimo…
2019
Museums, consumers, and on‐site experiences
2010
PurposeOne conclusion is widely shared by professionals in the cultural sector: consumer motivations have changed and in particular their relations with cultural products and services. This paper seeks to analyze different trends applied to museums in order to improve the understanding of this “new” cultural audience.Design/methodology/approachFor this trend marketing analysis, seven consumer orientations have been identified (without claiming they are at all exhaustive) after an extended review over the shape of contemporary consumer habits. Besides, the authors wanted to know the opinion of the cultural managers. Each consumer orientation has been evaluated by taking a sample of French pr…
