Marked Semiotics: Tactics and Strategies

2021

One of Paolo Fabbri’s most recent papers, his plenary speech at the XIV Congress of the International Association for Semiotic Studies, held in Buenos Aires on 9th-13th September 2019, was entitled, ‘Para una semiotica marcada.’ What does this refer to? we might say that it refers to knowledge concerned with intensity. First, for its technical meaning: a term from semi otic metalanguage is used to define semiotics itself. Secondly, for its emotional and psychological meaning: practicing the science of signification as a constitutionally passionate form of life. A knowledge that is in no way ascetic or loftily detached from existence; a knowledge that holds tightly to life as it founds resea…

Postfazione. Sul senso della novità nelle narrazioni seriali

2020

Today we often hear about seriality and its great success. But in these conversations, often interested in showing their media skills, updates on the latest success story or the affirmation of a radical chic taste for lesser-known products, it is rare to hear the troubles of Orlando, the fate of the first comic heroes or the exciting love adventures in the now vintage world of photo novels. Thing of which we have spoken instead in this volume, where the very different manifestations textual investigations, the different approaches compared, the various facets highlighted by the individual essays, they integrated themselves to form an articulated totality and consistent. And in retrospect, a…

Immergersi nel visivo

2021

2015

It is a short ethnography of thinking written by keeping into account the dialogue established between text and images, processes of thinking and forms of codification. As a consequence, thinking is not conceived as a result of a …

Introduction – Semiotics of Digital Gastromania

2021

In this volume we have collected research papers on the cultural transformations which arise from gastronomic discourse on the net, between blogs and social networks. This online gastronomic discourse brings into question new and old media around peculiar stories and characters, and is capable of establishing itself as an instrument of interaction between users in the post-media political context. There are semiotic and interdisciplinary analyses that investigate intermedial culinary narratives from the perspectives of narrative, enunciation, passion, experience, space, gastronomy, music, cinema, life forms, media and political rhetoric, etc., in search of general invariants on the articula…

Telling Monte Pellegrino, sacred space

2013

This article is an analysis of the sacred space of Monte Pellegrino in Palermo, on a narrative perspective. It focuses on three places in particular, the shrine of Santa Rosalia, a castle overlooking the town of Palermo, and a viewpoint for tourists and citizens overhanging the sea. This mountain represents the deep identity of the town of Palermo. Studying its semiotic form means, then, getting into the identity of the town itself through the tales and the spaces which constitutes it as a meaningful scenario.

Religion and Politics

2022

Religious beliefs often determine the life within communities. Therefore, religion often also has political implications and the interrelationship between politics and religiously motivated considerations play an important role for the daily life of many people around the globe. Very often, political leaders also tie their own measures and their respective interpretation to some kind of religious mission or interpretation of the past as well as the future. It is therefore more than important to take a closer look at the intertwined relationship between religion and politics. This issue of Global Humanities intends to do that and therefore spans different geographical and chronological conte…

Una Congiura degli Uguali: involtini & friends

2020

What makes the roll is its conformation, or little more. Even if sometimes the same shape, invested with precise substances, changes not only its name but also its position in the menu and therefore its statute. The gastronomy system, as…

Repenser la nature en sémiotique

2019

Nature is nowadays an absolute value: in politics, in tourism, in religion, in urban thinking, in design, in consumerism, in food, in the media. Just add the adjective 'natural' to anything from a city to a snack, from a fur to a washing machine, and condescensions and smiles, convictions and credit cards immediately spring up. We have a kind of brand, or meta-brand. This absolute value has even invaded, for obviously different purposes, the field of the human sciences, today more than ever the artisans of an empiricism that has lost all salutary problematicity. The human sciences are in fact increasingly in search of the so-called biological bases of so-called human nature, particularly se…
