Reduced graphene oxide decorated with metals nanoparticles electrode as electrochemical sensor for dopamine
2019
Dopamine (DA) is one of the most important neurotransmitters that influences the processes that involve memory, sleep, mood, learning among others [1]. In fact, in the last years, dopamine concentration in human body fluids has been related to some neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinson and Alzheimer's diseases [2]. The possibility to have a bio-marker for these disease is of extreme importance because, disease related with dementia, are diagnosed when they are already developed and their management become almost impossible. The possibility to continuously monitor DA level in fluids, such as blood and urine, could accelerate the early diagnosis of these diseases. The principal analyt…
Jugement de la couleur des carcasses en abattoir. Eléments d’objectivation de la notation experte de la couleur des viandes de gros bovins Charolais
2016
Evaluation of carcass color at the slaughterhouse Expert notation is the reference method for the evaluation of bovine meat color, notably for quality. A total of 140 Charolais carcasses were scored at the slaughterhouse on a color scale going from 1 (too light) to 5 (too dark). These expert scores were compared to three types of instrumental data (L*a*b / RVB referential; image shooting with image processing / chromameter). Amongst the instrumental measurements, the values obtained after image processing of the whole muscle seems to be better associated with the scores obtained for color by experts than the scores obtained with the chromameter for which the zone of the muscle analyzed is m…
Coded Excitation of the Fundamental Flexural Guided Wave in Coated Bone Phantoms
2017
There is an increasing interest of using ultrasonic guided waves to assess long cortical bones. In particular, a method of ultrasonic estimation of cortical thickness based on the fundamental flexural guided wave (FFGW), generally consistent with the A0 Lamb mode, has proven to be promising in vitro and modeling studies. Soft-tissue coating on top of the bone makes, however, the related in vivo application challenge. Visibility of FFGW on top of the soft tissue is not good due to the characteristic displacement profile of this mode, and due to its relatively high attenuation in the bone and surrounding tissue. Moreover, the soft tissue provides a direct propagation path for ultrasonic modes…
Detection of disbonds in multilayer structures by laser-based ultrasonic technique
2008
Adhesively bonded multi-layer structures are frequently used, mostly in the aerospace industry, for their structural efficiency. Nondestructive evaluation of bond integrity in these types of structures, both after manufacturing and for periodic inspection during service, is extremely important. A laser-based ultrasonic technique has been evaluated for non-contact detection of disbonds in aluminum multi-layer structures. Two configurations have been used to detect disbonded areas: pitch-catch with unidirectional guided wave scan and through-transmission with bidirectional scan. Guided wave scanning was done with a laser line source and air-coupled transducer sensing at 500 kHz, 1 ;MHz, and 2…
Ligation Tunes Protein Reactivity in an Ancient Haemoglobin: Kinetic Evidence for an Allosteric Mechanism in Methanosarcina acetivorans Protoglobin
2012
Abstract: Protoglobin from Methanosarcina acetivorans (MaPgb) is a dimeric globin with peculiar structural properties such as a completely buried haem and two orthogonal tunnels connecting the distal cavity to the solvent. CO binding to and dissociation from MaPgb occur through a biphasic kinetics. We show that the heterogenous kinetics arises from binding to (and dissociation from) two tertiary conformations in ligation-dependent equilibrium. Ligation favours the species with high binding rate (and low dissociation rate). The equilibrium is shifted towards the species with low binding (and high dissociation) rates for the unliganded molecules. A quantitative model is proposed to describe t…
Pomological, Sensorial, Nutritional and Nutraceutical Profile of Seven Cultivars of Cherimoya (Annona cherimola Mill)
2020
In this work, the food quality of four international (Campas, Chaffey, Fino de Jete and White) and three local (Daniela, Torre1 and Torre2) cultivars of Cherimoya (Annona cherimola Mill) was investigated. With this aim, pomological traits, sensorial attributes, physiochemical parameters (pH, total soluble content and total acidity), nutritional composition (macro- and micro-nutrients) and nutraceutical values (bioactive compounds, radical scavenging and antioxidant properties) were evaluated. Among the seven observed cultivars, Fino de Jete was identified as the best, not only for its commercial attributes such as pomological traits and physiochemical values, but also for its nutritional co…
Are smartphone applications (App) useful to improve hearing?
2020
Hearing impairment and diverse health outcomes: An umbrella review of meta-analyses of observational studies
2021
Background: Globally, it is estimated that approximately 1.3 billion people live with some form of hearing impairment. Major causes of hearing loss include infection/disease, age-related factors, and occupational factors. Numerous systematic reviews and meta-analyses have attempted to synthesise literature on these topics. To date there has not been a systematic evaluation of the relationships between hearing impairment and diverse physical, mental, and social outcomes. Objective: We performed an umbrella review of systematic reviews of observational studies with meta-analyses for any physical disease, biomarkers of disease, mental health or cognitive outcomes, and/or modifiable risk factor…
Novel Wireless Sensor System for Dynamic Characterization of Borehole Heat Exchangers
2011
The design and field test of a novel sensor system based in autonomous wireless sensors to measure the temperature of the heat transfer fluid along a borehole heat exchanger (BHE) is presented. The system, by means of two specials valves, inserts and extracts miniaturized wireless sensors inside the pipes of the borehole, which are carried by the thermal fluid. Each sensor is embedded in a small sphere of just 25 mm diameter and 8 gr weight, containing a transceiver, a microcontroller, a temperature sensor and a power supply. A wireless data processing unit transmits to the sensors the acquisition configuration before the measurements, and also downloads the temperature data measured by the…
Gas protection optimization during Nd:YAG laser welding
2004
International audience; Many laser processes, such as welding or surface treatments are associated with an undesired phenomenon, which is oxidation. The solution commonly employed to solve this problem approaches the shielding gas and/or the shielding gas device. What we propose in this paper is a methodology with the goal to optimize the protection gas device design as well as the gas flow in the case of laser welding and surface treatments. The pressure created by the gas flow on the sample surface is recorded and analysed together with the operating parameters influence in order to reach the objectives. The nozzle system designed and presented below assures the protection against materia…
