Self-assembly of extended structures via cross-linking of individual biomolecules often occurs in solutions at concentrations well below the estimated threshold for random cross-link percolation. This requires solute-solute correlations. Here we study bovine serum albumin. Its unfolding causes the appearance of an instability region of the sol, not observed for native bovine serum albumin. As a consequence, spinodal demixing of the sol is observed. Transient Pulmonary Infiltrates during Treatment with Anti-Thymocyte Globulin

We report the case of a 54-year-old woman with aplastic anemia, who developed transient pulmonary infiltrates following intravenous infusion of rabbit antithymocyte globulin (ATG) for 3 days. There was no other explanation than the infusion of ATG for the infiltrates. Rechallenge with ATG induced the recurrence of opacities on the chest radiograph. Although rarely involved with only 4 previous reports, ATG should be included in the list of drugs capable of inducing pulmonary infiltrates.

Abstract Mixed divalent Cu, Co, Ni and Zn complexes containing the new sulfonamide ligand N–(2–(pyridin–2–yl)ethyl)quinoline–8–sulfonamide (HQSEP) were prepared and characterized by physico-chemical techniques. The tetracoordinate [Cu(QSEP)X] [X = Br (1), Cl (2)] compounds present a seesaw geometry (τ4 = 0.56 (1) and 0.50 (2)). The Cu(II) in the [Cu(QSEP)(NO3)(MeOH)] (3) complex is five coordinate with a slightly distorted SP geometry (τ = 0.11). Abstract The aim of this investigation was to study in vitro adsorption of milk proteins onto tooth enamel. In vitro “milk protein pellicles” were formed on enamel specimens incubated in fluid milk products: skimmed milk (pH 6.7), acidified skimmed milk (pH 4.2), yoghurt and neutralized yoghurt (pH 6.7). The enamel specimens were used as such or pre-incubated in saliva. The “milk pellicles” were desorbed from enamel surfaces, and proteins separated by sodium dodecyl sulphate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE).
