Background: Intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) and small for gestational age (SGA) birth have been considered possible indicators of the presence of malformations. The aim of this study is to evaluate such relationships in a population of newborns, along with other epidemiological and auxological parameters, in particular the ponderal index (PI). Non-linear Intestinal Absorption Kinetics of Cefadroxil in the Rat

Abstract Absorption of Cefadroxil in a selective intestinal absorption area (the proximal third of the small intestine) of the anaesthetized rat, at seven initial perfusion concentrations, ranging from 0·01 to 10·0 mg mL−1, is shown to be a non-linear transport mechanism. With the aid of computer-fitting procedures based on differential and integrated forms of Michaelis-Menten equation, Vm and Km values of 36·7–37·3 mg h−1 and 12·0–13·0 mg, respectively, were found. The statistical parameters were better than those obtained both for first-order and for combined Michaelis-Menten and first-order kinetics. Immunoglobulins, containing antibodies against U1-snRNP, have been prepared from a patient with systemic lupus erythematosus. After coupling these antibodies to a Sepharose matrix, U-snRNPs have been isolated and purified from rat liver nuclei by use of immunoaffinity chromatography. The resulting RNPs had the typical protein pattern of U-sn RNPs and a sedimentation coefficient of 12 S. The U-snRNP preparation was associated with an endoribonuclease which required Mg2+ for optimal activity. The enzyme, with an pH optimum of 6.2, degraded only poly(U). Use of nonlinear mixed effect modeling for the intestinal absorption data: application to ritonavir in the rat.

The aim of this study is to investigate in situ the mechanisms involved in the gastrointestinal absorption of ritonavir in the rat, as an animal model for preclinical studies of anti-HIV agents in vivo. Four ritonavir solutions (40, 27, 13 and 7 microM) in the presence of 1% dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) were perfused in the small intestine of anaesthetised rats. Effects of DMSO on the intestinal permeability were investigated using solutions containing antipyrine 1.33 mM and ritonavir 7 microM with and without 1% of DMSO. In this sense, augmented epithelial cell turnover appears as a potential effector mechanism for the rejection of intestinal-dwelling helminths. Methods A BrdU pulse-chase experiment was conducted to investigate the infection-induced alterations on epithelial cell kinetics in hosts of high (mouse) and low (rat) compatibility with the intestinal trematode Echinostoma caproni. Comparison of neutron and X-ray scattering of dilute myoglobin solutions.

Experimental results obtained by neutron scattering of dilute solutions of myoglobin are compared with those obtained by X-ray scattering. X-ray scattering remains the more powerful technique at wider angles above 0.3 A−1, where neutron experiments are less accurate because of low coherent scattering probability and high incoherent background.
