New loci associated with kidney function and chronic kidney disease
2010
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a significant public health problem, and recent genetic studies have identified common CKD susceptibility variants. The CKDGen consortium performed a meta-analysis of genome-wide association data in 67,093 individuals of European ancestry from 20 predominantly population-based studies in order to identify new susceptibility loci for reduced renal function as estimated by serum creatinine (eGFRcrea), serum cystatin c (eGFRcys) and CKD (eGFRcrea 60 ml/min/1.73 m 2; n = 5,807 individuals with CKD (cases)). Follow-up of the 23 new genome-wide-significant loci (P 5 × 10 8) in 22,982 replication samples identified 13 new loci affecting renal function and CKD (in or…
Analysis of the sleep period and the amount of habitual snoring in individuals with sleep bruxism
2019
Background The literature does not report any association between habitual snoring and sleep bruxism, but these situations can be a reason for frequent complaints of individuals, impairing the quality of life. This study was performed to investigate the sleep period and amount of habitual snoring in individuals with sleep bruxism observing expiratory, inspiratory, and mixed snoring. Material and Methods A total of 90 individuals were screened and divided into the following groups: with sleep bruxism (n=45) and those without sleep bruxism (n=45). Single night sleep polysomnography was performed to diagnose sleep bruxism, quantify habitual snoring and sleep period. The results were tabulated …

Coaches’ Health Promotion Activity and Substance Use in Youth Sports
2017
There is an increasing amount of evidence suggesting youth sports clubs are an important setting for health promotion. Adolescents in sport club settings can benefit from exposures of positive and negative consequences to health. To better understand the sport club context and coaches’ health promotion activity in substance use prevention, this study compares sport club members with non-members aged between 14–16 years old on their experience and use of alcohol, smoking and snuff and coaches’ health promotion activity on substances. Methods: Adolescents (n = 671) from sports clubs and from matched schools (n = 1442) were recruited in this study. Multiple binary logistic regressions were per…
Metafikcija un intertekstualitāte Lemonija Sniketa "Nelaimīgo notikumu virknē"
2019
Land Snail Communities in Limestone Gorges from the Southern Part of the Metaliferi Mountains (Apuseni Mountains, Romania)
2018
Abstract This study focuses on terrestrial gastropod communities in a karst area, where the presence of water and the limestone generates favourable environment for land snails. Three limestone gorges were analysed located in the southeast of the Metaliferi Mountains. Four different habitats in three limestone gorges were analysed – Glodului, Cibului and Mada. A total of 42 species of land snails were identified. The terrestrial gastropod communities in the area are dominated by calciphile species, such as Granaria frumentum, Truncatellina cylindrica and Alopia bielzii madensis. The differences between the analysed habitats are not pronounced enough to be reflected in the structure of the s…
Does an intervention based on the pleasure of eating healthy foods could favour a positive relationship between food liking and perceived healthiness…
2019
International audience; It is generally admitted that consumers perceived unhealthy foods as tastier than healthy foods. However, the opposite association was found in French adults (Werle et al., 2013). Moreover, Marty et al. (2018) found that French children liked healthy foods as much as unhealthy foods. However, the link between liking and perceived healthiness in children needs to be further investigated, in particular at the individual level. Thus, our study aims, first at assessing the link between liking and perceived healthiness in children and, second at determining whether this potential link was modified after an intervention promoting pleasure of consuming healthy foods. To do …
Snail fauna of the oldest cemeteries from Riga (Latvia)
2008
We report on the snail fauna from one of the oldest cemeteries from Riga city (Latvia), viz. Lielie kapi and Pokrova kapi. A list of all the snail species recorded from both cemeteries and limited information on the biotope conditions are given. Cecilioides acicula (O.F. Müller, 1774) is first recorded from Latvia and was found at a grassland within the tomb area of the Pokrova kapi cemetery.
Food community networks as sustainable self-organized collective action: A case study of a Solidarity Purchasing Group
2014
The spread of Food Community Networks (FCNs) is mainly due to new and confirmed policies for consumption, testing new social paradigms aimed at promoting sustainable development in rural areas through the active reorganization of the agricultural and food industry. As a result, there is a set of rules deriving from complex relational structures competing to define self-organized collective action for sustainability. This paper analyses the structure of relations within FCNs. With this end in view, research on the experience of FCNs has been done, in particular of Solidarity Purchasing Groups (henceforth SPGs) in Sicily (Southern Italy). By applying Social Network Analysis, the article ident…
