Non-archimedean hyperbolicity and applications

Inspired by the work of Cherry, we introduce and study a new notion of Brody hyperbolicity for rigid analytic varieties over a non-archimedean field $K$ of characteristic zero. We use this notion of hyperbolicity to show the following algebraic statement: if a projective variety admits a non-constant morphism from an abelian variety, then so does any specialization of it. As an application of this result, we show that the moduli space of abelian varieties is $K$-analytically Brody hyperbolic in equal characteristic zero. These two results are predicted by the Green-Griffiths-Lang conjecture on hyperbolic varieties and its natural analogues for non-archimedean hyperbolicity. Finally, we use …

Living means transfiguring the place and loading it with meanings that transcend its pure objectivity, allowing our body to feel itself among "its things", close to itself. The path of "transfiguration" inherent in living interprets the complementarity between man and his environment and reveals the poetic capacity of architecture. Thus, it may be interesting to understand how the interaction between body and space can make us regain possession of the most problematic places, within a mental and transcendent dimension.

In this work we study the fog attenuation in the visible and infrared spectral band related to Free Space Optics (FSO). Based on the Mie scattering theory, fog extinction coefficients for different particle size distributions as a function of wavelength were derived. A simple analytical model allowing the prediction of atmospheric transmission for the 0.69 - 1.55 µm spectral band was developed. This model is valid for advection and convection fog and for visibility range between 50 to 1000 m. This model, implemented into software developed at FT R&D, allows the prediction of the Quality of Service of FSO links. However, active striving to reach one’s goals might inspire older people to move in a larger life-space regardless of their physical abilities. We aimed to study whether tenacious goal pursuit differs according to walking difficulties and whether it is associated with life-space mobility in old age.

Spectral and timing properties of IGR J00291+5934 during its 2015 outburst

We report on the spectral and timing properties of the accreting millisecond X-ray pulsar IGR J00291+5934 observed by XMM-Newton and NuSTAR during its 2015 outburst. The source is in a hard state dominated at high energies by a comptonization of soft photons ($\sim0.9$ keV) by an electron population with kT$_e\sim30$ keV, and at lower energies by a blackbody component with kT$\sim0.5$ keV. A moderately broad, neutral Fe emission line and four narrow absorption lines are also found. By investigating the pulse phase evolution, we derived the best-fitting orbital solution for the 2015 outburst.
