Acute stress and working memory in older people.

Several studies have shown that acute stress affects working memory (WM) in young adults, but the effect in older people is understudied. As observed in other types of memory, older people may be less sensitive to acute effects of stress on WM. We performed two independent studies with healthy older men and women (from 55 to 77 years old) to investigate the effects of acute stress (Trier Social Stress Test; TSST) and cortisol on WM. Predicting the Short-Term Exchange Rate Between United State Dollar and Czech Koruna Using Hilbert-Huang Transform and Fuzzy Logic

In this paper, the combination of the Hilbert-Huang Transform, fuzzy logic and an embedding theorem is described to predict the short-term exchange rate from United States dollar to Czech Koruna. By Using the Hilbert-Huang Transform as an adaptive filter, the proposed method decreases the embedding dimension space from five (original samples) to four (de-noising samples). This dimension space provides the number of inputs to the fuzzy rule base system, which causes the number of rules, the time for training and the inference process to decrease. Experimental results indicated that this method achieves higher accuracy prediction than the direct use of original data.

In Drosophila, loss of ISWI leads to global transcriptional defects and to dramatic alterations in higher-order chromatin structure, especially on the male X chromosome. Abstract Extracellular adenosine (ADO), generated from ATP or ADP through the concerted action of the ectoenzymes CD39 and CD73, elicits autocrine and paracrine effects mediated by type 1 purinergic receptors. We have tested whether the expression of CD39 and CD73 by chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) cells activates an adenosinergic axis affecting growth and survival. By immunohistochemistry, CD39 is widely expressed in CLL lymph nodes, whereas CD73 is restricted to proliferation centers.
