Associations between personality, sports participation and athletic success. A comparison of Big Five in sporting and non-sporting adults

Abstract The present study investigates whether the Big Five personality traits are different among diverse sports populations. A sample of 881 male athletes and non-athletes completed a self-report questionnaire measuring their personality traits. The Exploratory Structure Equation Modeling (ESEM) approach is adopted to test measurement invariance and mean differences among groups. Stabilization of hsp70 mRNA on prolonged cell exposure to hypertonicity

AbstractProlonged exposure of 3T3 cells to 0.5 osM hypertonic medium induced the accumulation of hsp70 mRNAs. This increase in mRNA levels required active protein synthesis. A weak and transient activation of heat shock factor 1 (HSF1) was noted, but it was temporally uncoupled to the accumulation of the hsp70 mRNAs. Nuclear run-on assay and transfection experiments showed that hsp70 gene transcription was not affected by hypertonicity. ActD chase experiments showed that during hypertonic treatment, degradation of hsp70 mRNAs was markedly reduced. Glass-forming derivatives of 2-cyano-2-(4H-pyran-4-ylidene) acetate for light-amplification systems

Abstract A series of 2-cyano-2-(4H-pyran-4-ylidene) acetate derivatives with triphenyl and 9H-carbazole moieties were synthesized and investigated, mostly for potential applications in organic solid state lasers. Synthesized compounds show remarkable amorphous film formation ability, tunable thermal properties (thermal stability varies from 190 °C to 387 °C and glass transition temperature from 94 °C up to 141 °C) with light absorption from 400 nm to 600 nm and photoluminescence from 600 nm up to 800 nm. Metal halide perovskites are currently emerging as highly promising optoelectronic materials. It has been recently demonstrated that fully inorganic solution processed CsPbBr3 perovskite thin films show good electroluminescence properties combined with high thermal stability. In this work, we investigate in details the amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) properties of CsPbBr3 perovskite thin films, as a function of the temperature and the trap density, modified by changing the CsBr-PbBr2 precursor concentration. Thioflavin T Hydroxylation at Basic pH and Its Effect on Amyloid Fibril Detection

The fluorescent dye thioflavin T (ThT) is commonly used for in situ amyloid fibril detection. In this work, we focused on the spectroscopic properties and chemical stability of ThT in aqueous solution as a function of pH, temperature, and dye concentration. A reversible hydroxylation process occurs in alkaline solutions, which was characterized using a combination of UV-vis absorption spectroscopy, proton NMR, and density functional theory (DFT).
