Patterns of male-specific inter-population divergence in Europe, West Asia and North Africa

summary We typed 1801 males from 55 locations for the Y-specific binary markers YAP, DYZ3, SRY "!)$" and the (CA)n microsatellites YCAII and DYS413. Phylogenetic relationships of chromosomes with the same binary haplotype were condensed in seven large one-step networks, which accounted for 95% of all chromosomes. Their coalescence ages were estimated based on microsatellite diversity. The three largest and oldest networks undergo sharp frequency changes in three areas. The more recent network 3‐1A clearly discriminates between Western and Eastern European populations. Uncontrolled diabetes and health care utilisation:A bivariate latent Markov model approach

Although uncontrolled diabetes (UD) or poor glycaemic control is a widespread condition with potentially life-threatening consequences, there is sparse evidence of its effects on health care utilisation. We jointly model the propensities to consume health care and UD by employing an innovative bivariate latent Markov model that allows for dynamic unobserved heterogeneity, movements between latent states and the endogeneity of UD. A successful backward step correlates with hip flexion moment of supporting limb in elderly people.

Purpose The objective of this study was to determine the positional relationship between the center of mass (COM) and the center of pressure (COP) at the time of step landing, and to examine their relationship with the joint moments exerted by the supporting limb, with regard to factors of the successful backward step response. Validity of the Seattle Heart Failure Model after heart failure hospitalization.

Abstract Aims Heart failure hospitalization is a sentinel event associated with increased mortality risk. Whether long‐term heart failure risk models such as the Seattle Heart Failure Model (SHFM) accurately assess risk in the post‐hospital setting is unknown. Abstract Objective To design a fast algorithm that evaluates the degree of correlation of recordings among single trials (CoRaST) for mismatch negativity (MMN) activity. Methods The participants were 114 children, aged 8–16 years. MMNs were elicited by two deviants in duration that occurred in an uninterrupted sound within a passive oddball paradigm, and each trial lasted 650 ms with 130 samples. Oral chloral hydrate provides effective and safe sedation in paediatric magnetic resonance imaging.

SUMMARY Sedation is routinely required for successful Magnetic Resonance imaging in infants and children. Five hundred and ninety-six paediatric patients (270 female and 326 male, age (mean±SD) 41±30 months and weight 14.8±6.5 kg) entered an open, non-comparative, prospective study to assess oral chloral hydrate sedation in a large and homogeneous paediatric population undergoing Magnetic Resonance imaging. Chloral hydrate syrup 70 mg/ml was administered 20–40 min prior to the procedure. Effective sedation was reached in 94.1% with a total dose (mean±SEM) of 68±1 mg/kg (range 20–170 mg/kg).
