Il dynamic business modelling per lo sviluppo e la prevenzione delle crisi delle piattaforme multi-sided
2021
Over the last few decades, the sharing economy diffusion has implemented continu- ous changes in business model opportunities with multi-sided platforms (MSPs). MSPs are digital exchange platforms that connect unmatched demand and supply side participants through internet technology. Success examples of such businesses are Airbnb, Amazon, Uber, and Just Eat. How- ever, in many cases, such initiatives also experience high growth followed by a rapid failure. Due to MSPs peculiar and complex characteristics, this study suggests adopt- ing the dynamic business modeling (DBM) perspective. The DBM aims to make explicit reinforcing and balancing cause-and-effect relationships among strategic re- s…

Implementing a sustainable CSR Strategy through a System Dynamics Perspective: evidences from a Colombian case-study
2009
During last decades, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategies received a growing attention from both businesses and non profit organisations. However, very often organisations fail to correctly implement a successful CSR strategy. Through the analysis of a case-study, this paper tries to demonstrates how a CSR strategy could fail in the long term if a open-loop logic is adopted. On the contrary, by making explicit the feedback loops structure underlying a CSR strategy, the system dynamics approach is likely to better support decision makers in implementing effective CSR strategies able to foster sustainable long term growth. After discussing the main benefits and limits of the CSR c…
DESIGNING OUTCOME-BASED PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS THROUGH SYSTEM DYNAMICS MODELLING TO FRAME CORRUPTION BEHAVIOUR IN PUBLIC PROCUREMENT
Corruption is one of the most significant problems facing Serbia. While there are some signs that corruption may have become less rampant in recent years, available evidence suggests that corruption levels are still high while trust in key institutions is low (European Commission, 2014). This phenomenon is ubiquitous and has serious consequences on a country’s public welfare. Numerous conducted studies have mainly focused on specific characteristics such as economic issues, legal issues, social propositions, impact on national development, and about economic policy. The rationale of this research is to concentrate on a specific Anti-Hail Public Service provider in Serbia by not only explori…

Combing System Dynamics Modeling and Performance Management Systems to Frame the One Stop Shop Service: a Case Study Based on Palermo's Municipality
The Italian public sector is characterized by a great number of stakeholders, both public and private. That’s the reason why, in the past, dealing with public issues meant to face different actors and administrations, to solve the several number of bureaucratic requirements. In particular, the field of new business activities was very complex. This area was characterized by huge fragmentations among the public bodies involved. In fact, if an entrepreneur wanted to open a new business, it was necessary to deal with different subjects to obtain the mandatory permits, license and authorizations. Accomplishing all the steps, without any support from the public sector, implied an increase of cos…
A Dynamic Performance Management Approach to Evaluate and Support SMEs Competitiveness: Evidences from a Case Study
2013
The role of Performance Management (PM) systems has become crucial for steering Small-Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to successfully compete during the ongoing critical economic transition. To improve decision-maker strategic learning processes, traditional PM frameworks need to be combined with System Dynamics (SD) modeling. This paper shows how to design and use a Dynamic Performance Management (DPM) approach to assess and support SMEs competitiveness. The emerging framework is applied to a real case of a small business to analyze the empirical effectiveness of the approach hereby suggested.
Designing a Dynamic Performance Management System to outline patients mobility policies
2015
In the Italian health care service, both public and private providers operate through the coordination of Local Health Authorities (Lhas). Such authorities, together with the regional government, are in charge to make sure citizens can access locally to a predefined health care service level. However, patients are free to move from one region to another to receive the requested health care service. This phenomenon is recognised as patients mobility. Palm and Glinos [2010] identified some of the reasons why patients decide to seek care elsewhere, such as the specific situation of the patient, the medical need and the availability (or not) of the care service at home. A patient treated in a r…
