Association between resting blood pressure and maximal blood pressure response to exercise and arterial health
2022
We investigated the longitudinal associations of blood pressure, cardiorespiratory fitness, and arterial stiffness among children. Arterial stiffening has been repeatedly shown to be a cardiovascular mortality predictor and can be observed early in childhood. As such, it is crucial to understand whether a child’s blood pressure, fitness level, and body composition can predict early signs of atherosclerosis and arterial stiffening. The current study examined the relationship between blood pressure, cardiorespiratory fitness, and arterial stiffness over time in children, using data from the Physical and Nutrition in Children (PANIC) Study. It is a physical and dietary intervention study condu…

Predicting and monitoring individual endurance training adaptation and individualizing training prescription : with endurance performance, cardiac au…
2016
Humans adapt differently to standardized endurance training programs. While some individuals may achieve huge improvements in physical fitness, other individuals may even suffer from negative adaptations. Special attention should be paid to identification of non-responders, which would enable to modify training to be more effective. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to investigate whether running performance, cardiac autonomic regulation and neuromuscular performance can be used in 1) predicting subsequent endurance training adaptations; 2) monitoring training adaptations; and 3) individualizing training prescription in recreational endurance runners. Three longitudinal training s…
Activity Theory as a Lens to Identify Challenges in Surgical Skills Training at Hospital Work Environment
2015
In this paper the concepts from activity theory (AT) are applied for identifying the challenges and contradictions emerging in surgical residentâs curriculum based training at hospital. AT is utilised as a lens to identify contradictions that cause disturbances, problems, ruptures, breakdowns, and clashes which emerge while surgical skills training is implemented in a new way at hospital. We especially aim at finding solutions for contradictions which emerge while the new and old working culture are confronted and the workers are required to balance themselves between the patient care demands and workplace learning requirements. We are using the conceptual theoretical approach to describe…
Does the Learning Channel Really Matter? - Insights from Commercial Online ICT-training
2017
Evolving ICT has provided new options to participate to training. Online participation has been found to be cost effective, helping people to deal with the time and cost pressures they are facing on their jobs. Previous studies conducted in higher education sector indicates that student satisfaction or learning outcomes does not differ between online and classroom participants. However, little is known what is the situation in commercial ICT-training. This paper studied course feedbacks from courses having both online and classroom participants of a commercial ICT-training provider. Results revealed that the learning channel has no effect on satisfaction, perceived teacher’s substance and t…
Social support in the workplace for physicians in specialization training
2018
ABSTRACT When becoming a specialist, learning-through-service plays a significant role. The workplace affords good opportunities for learning, but the service-learning period may also impose stress on phycisians in specialization training. In medical work, social support has proved to be a very important factor in managing stress. Social support may afford advantages also for learning and professional identity building. However, little was known about how social support is perceived by doctors in specialization training. This study aimed to understand the perceptions of physicians in specialization training regarding social support communication in their workplace during their learning-thro…

Aivoverenkiertohäiriön sairastaneiden tasapainoharjoittelun vaikuttavuus RCT-tutkimusten perusteella : evidence on the effectiveness of balance train…
2013
Aineisto ja menetelmät: Systemaattinen kirjallisuushaku tehtiin Ovid Medline, CINAHL, Embase, Physiotherapy Evidence Database, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials sähköisistä tietokannoista sekä käsihaulla. RCT-tutkimukset, joissa koehenkilöiden ikä oli yli 18- vuotta ja jotka oli julkaistu en…

Alumni in fabula. Rappresentazione e promozione di valori inclusivi mediante l’uso di arti performative nella formazione dei futuri docenti
2022
Academic literature provides us with evidence supporting the demand to device teacher training programs able to aim awareness and reflection about inclusive education themes, moving beyond the only theorical and technical knowledge. The present paper proposes to show a pedagogical experience aimed at Primary Education students of Palermo University, which intends to promote a process of critical thinking on the representation and conceptualization of disability and in‐ clusion, through a training methodology based on the use of performing arts for improving traditional Problem‐based Learning approaches.
