The Myc promoter-binding protein-1 (MBP-1) is a 37-38 kDa protein that binds to the c-myc P2 promoter and negatively regulates transcription of the protooncogene. MBP-1 cDNA shares 97% similarity with the cDNA encoding the glycolytic enzyme alpha-enolase and both genes have been mapped to the same region of human chromosome 1, suggesting the hypothesis that the two proteins might be encoded by the same gene. We show here data indicating that a 37 kDa protein is alternatively translated from the full-length alpha-enolase mRNA. A cDNA encoding a receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) was previously cloned and expressed from the marine sponge (Porifera) Geodia cydonium. In addition to the two intracellular regions characteristic for RTKs, two immunoglobulin (Ig)-like domains are found in the extracellular part of the sponge RTK. In the present study it is shown that no further Ig-like domain is present in the upstream region of the cDNA as well as of the gene hitherto known from the sponge RTK. This PhD thesis examines Italian contemporary literary works (novels and short stories) in which dialect is used as a linguistic variety in combination with the national Italian idiom. The analysis is conducted through the works of four Italian writers, in which multilingualism is particularly significant: Andrea Camilleri, Salvatore Niffoi, Laura Pariani and Andrej Longo. In the preceding chapters we have studied in detail the major methods of deterministic context-free parsing: strong LL(k) parsing (Chapter 5), simple precedence parsing (Chapter 5), canonical LR(k) parsing, LALR(k) parsing, and SLR(k) parsing (Chapters 6 and 7), and canonical LL(k) parsing (Chapter 8). Each of these methods induces a class of grammars that are “parsable” using that method, that is, a class of grammars for which a deterministic parser employing that method can be constructed.
