Aspectos históricos de las traducciones y traductores del Quijote en Alemania en el siglo XX

2013

There is nothing new in saying that everyone in Germany knows the Quixote, and that one can find translations of this work everywhere. But it is strange for the average reader to know how many translations there are or when the translation he is reading was done. And it is even stranger for the reader to know who the translator was if he is not one of the “star translators” of German literature, in the case of the Quijote Ludwig Tieck, in other cases for example August Wilhelm Schlegel, Arthur Schopenhauer, Walter Benjamin or Stefan Zweig. However, beyond these “stars” there have been a large amount of good translators that have not been paid the attention they might deserve. This article t…

Errors d?edició : dels manuscrits als diccionaris. Exemples de textos mèdics medievals (Hipòcrates, Arnau de Vilanova, Bernat de Gordon, misser Joan)

2017

The commonly used Catalan lexicons (DCVB, DECLC, the vocabulary of Lluis Faraudo de Saint-Germain) collect words and give them meaning from ancient editions of texts. Lexicographers’ performance had its own logic: they used the documentary sources they had at their disposal when they set up to write their works. The advances in philological research (new critical editions, new sources of information) allow us to refine results and detect errors that occurred in old editions and went into dictionaries. Wrong lexemes were included, as well as incorrect or insufficient definitions. This article offers examples of it, out of four medical works. On the one hand, the Catalan translations of the R…

Translational adaptation to heat stress is mediated by RNA 5‐methylcytosine in Caenorhabditis elegans

2021

Abstract Methylation of carbon‐5 of cytosines (m5C) is a post‐transcriptional nucleotide modification of RNA found in all kingdoms of life. While individual m5C‐methyltransferases have been studied, the impact of the global cytosine‐5 methylome on development, homeostasis and stress remains unknown. Here, using Caenorhabditis elegans, we generated the first organism devoid of m5C in RNA, demonstrating that this modification is non‐essential. Using this genetic tool, we determine the localisation and enzymatic specificity of m5C sites in the RNome in vivo. We find that NSUN‐4 acts as a dual rRNA and tRNA methyltransferase in C. elegans mitochondria. In agreement with leucine and proline bein…

Editorial: Mesenchymal Stromal Cell Therapy for Regenerative Medicine

2022

Mesenchymal stromal/stem cell (MSC) therapies are increasingly explored as novel regenerative and immunomodulatory approaches to treat or prevent diseases (Pittenger et al., 2019; Hmadcha et al., 2020; Moll et al., 2020b; Ringdén et al., 2022). These cells exhibit potent paracrine properties that can modulate host immune responses, lower inflammation, and orchestrate endogenous tissue repair, at both the local and the systemic level through multiple pathways (Singer and Caplan, 2011; Doorn et al., 2012). MSCs possess tropism toward damaged and inflamed tissues, where they can engraft short-term and exert their therapeutic effects by both direct and indirect mechanisms (Doorn et al., 2012; G…

Alternatīvas neironu mašīntulkošanas arhitektūras

2020

Pētījuma mērķis: Izpētīt alternatīvas mašīntulkošanas arhitektūras, pielietojot jaunas pieejas, lai izveidotu angļu-latviešu tulkotāju un apvienot attēlu ar teikumu matricu vienā modelī. Nozīmīgākie rezultāti: Darba ietvaros tika uztrēnēti dažādi mašīntulkotāji. Viens balstās uz «transformer» arhitektūru. Šis modeļis uztrenēts pilnīgi no jauna. Otrs mašīntulkotājs balstās uz pretrenētiem modeliem. Darbā tika salīdzinātas dažādas pieejas un tika izvēlēts labākais pretrenēts modelis XLM-R, uz kura bāzes izveidots tulkotājs. Pirmajā tulkotājā iegūtie tulkojuma rezultāti ir pietiekami precīzi un gramatiski pareizi. Taču šis tulkotājs pielāgots politiski vai juridiski virzītam tekstam, jo uztren…

Comparing Translation and Post-editing: An Annotation Schema for Activity Units

2016

The current chapter introduces an annotation schema of TPR data that categorises post-editing behaviour into five different classes and compares general-language and domain-specific English-to-German translation and post-editing with respect to production times, key-logging (text production activity and text elimination activity) and eye-tracking data (total reading times on source text and on target text). The results support the hypothesis that post-editing is faster than translation from scratch for both domain-specific and non-domain-specific text types. When key-logging and eye-tracking data are taken into consideration, domain-specific texts require more effort when translating from s…

Latvian Translation Scene at the Turn of the 19th and 20th Century

2020

The paper looks at the Latvian translation scene at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. It is a continuation of the study of translation history in Latvia reflected in previous issues of Vertimo studijos (vol. 7, 8, 11). These decades are marked by a huge growth of translation, especially in periodicals. German was gradually losing its dominant position as a source and intermediate language, Russian was advancing, so was also the scope of other languages. In contrast to previous periods there was a particular interest in the quality of the originals and modernity. This period also saw a change of generations among translators, and women became visible in translation sc…

European expert opinion on the management of invasive candidiasis in adults

2011

Item does not contain fulltext This report discusses the present status of antifungal therapy and treatment options for candidaemia, considered by experts in the field in Europe. A conference of 26 experts from 13 European countries was held to discuss strategies for the treatment and prevention of invasive candidiasis, with the aim of providing a review on optimal management strategies. Published and unpublished comparative trials on antifungal therapy were analysed and discussed. Commonly asked questions about the management of candidaemia were selected, and possible responses to these questions were discussed. Panellists were then asked to respond to each question by using a touchpad ans…
