Modeling Human Endometrial Decidualization from the Interaction between Proteome and Secretome
2011
Context: Decidualization of the human endometrium, which involves morphological and biochemical modifications of the endometrial stromal cells (ESCs), is a prerequisite for adequate trophoblast invasion and placenta formation. Objective: This study aims to investigate the proteome and secretome of in vitro decidualized ESCs. These data were combined with published genomic information and integrated to model the human decidualization interactome. Design: Prospective experimental case–control study. Setting: A private research foundation. Patients: Sixteen healthy volunteer ovum donors. Intervention: Endometrial samples were obtained, and ESCs were isolated and decidualized in vitro. Main Ou…
A study protocol for applying the co-creating knowledge translation framework to a population health study
2013
Background: Population health research can generate significant outcomes for communities, while Knowledge Translation (KT) aims to expressly maximize the outcomes of knowledge producing activity. Yet the two approaches are seldom explicitly combined as part of the research process. A population health study in Port Lincoln, South Australia offered the opportunity to develop and apply the co-KT Framework to the entire research process. This is a new framework to facilitate knowledge formation collaboratively between researchers and communities throughout a research to intervention implementation process. Design: This study employs a five step framework (the co-KT Framework) that is formulate…
Translation as alchemy: the aesthetics of multilingualism in film
2012
The aim of this paper is to explore the aesthetics of multilingualism in film. We start with a discussion of translation strategy in several films and continue with two case studies based on Azur et Asmar (2006) by Michel Ocelot, on the one hand, and Nostalghia (1983) and Offret (1986) by Andrei Tarkovsky, on the other. Our analysis does not involve a comparison between the original dialogues or monologues and their translations into one or several languages, but, rather, it focuses on the role of translation in film making, considering it independently from any pre-existing oral or written texts. This will lead us to a number of reflections about the possibility and the limits of communica…
Cellular stress induces cap-independent alpha-enolase/MBP-1 translation.
2015
AbstractMyc promoter-binding protein-1 (MBP-1) is a shorter protein variant of the glycolytic enzyme alpha-enolase. Although several lines of evidence indicate that MBP-1 acts as a tumor suppressor, the cellular mechanisms and signaling pathways underlying MBP-1 expression still remain largely elusive. To dissect these pathways, we used the SkBr3 breast cancer cell line and non-tumorigenic HEK293T cells ectopically overexpressing alpha-enolase/MBP-1. Here, we demonstrate that induced cell stresses promote MBP-1 expression through the AKT/PERK/eIF2α signaling axis. Our results contribute to shedding light on the molecular mechanisms underlying MBP-1 expression in non-tumorigenic and cancer c…
Inuentiones y translationes de S. Mercurio
2019
Inuentiones and translationes of the relics are part of the hagiographic dossier of a saint and provide interesting information about his cult over the centuries. For S. Mercurius of Caesarea the original texts in Greek have been lost, but we have two collections miracles in Coptic that narrate the inuentio and translatio of his relics and there is also a medieval tradition about his translatio to Benevento (Italy). From all these texts is deduced a healing cult of S. Mercurius based on the usual topics.
Oggi viene male questo celeste. Paolo Conte e il dilettantismo
2022
The figure of the amateur is emerging on the contemporary semiosphere, both in terms of scientific research and in the artistic domain. In this paper we discuss this phenomenon from the textual analysis of a song by Paolo Conte. We thus deal with the relations of mutual inter semiotic translation between music and image by showing how, in Conte, a musical compo sition can, at the level of utterance, become the theory of a given pictorial making and, at the level of enunciation, be transposed into a drawing that predicates it by its own expressive and semantic means. But also how, in the reverse sense, a certain form of life of the amateur visual artist can be transposed into a precise devic…

Traduir sota la dictadura franquista, traduir clandestinament: Poesia (1944-1945) i Ariel (1946-1951)
2013
Neural Networks with Multidimensional Cross-Entropy Loss Functions
2019
Deep neural networks have emerged as an effective machine learning tool successfully applied for many tasks, such as misinformation detection, natural language processing, image recognition, machine translation, etc. Neural networks are often applied to binary or multi-class classification problems. In these settings, cross-entropy is used as a loss function for neural network training. In this short note, we propose an extension of the concept of cross-entropy, referred to as multidimensional cross-entropy, and its application as a loss function for classification using neural networks. The presented computational experiments on a benchmark dataset suggest that the proposed approaches may …
Eye tracking analysis of minor details in films for audio description
2012
This article focuses on the many instances when minute details found in feature films may have direct implications upon the development of both the visual and plot narratives. The main question we would like to ask examines whether very subtle details which may easily go unnoticed by the viewer should be audio described. To assess the visual consciousness of such minute details, a perception experiment was conducted using eye-tracking technology and questionnaires. Though the result is not conclusive, it shows a clear methodological approach in the field of the audio description of visual details, and does give some indication as to what should be taken into consideration in future studies …
