Analysing Incentive Strategies to Promote Participation in Crowdsourcing Systems

2016

In this paper, we define two strategies for crowdsourcing systems to encourage users to participate at a cost that is close to the optimal cost for the system. In the scenario considered, the system has temporal constraints and potential participants have dynamic behaviors related to the expected rewards (i.e., users’ expected rewards in exchange of their contributions change over time). We propose and evaluate two types of strategies that promote participation of users through monetary rewards that can change as time passes in order to adapt them to the population dynamic behaviors.

Longitudinal changes in genetic and environmental influences on older women's walking ability

2009

This study examined the stability and change over time in genetic and environmental influences on walking ability among older women. Maximal walking speed over 10 m and 6-min walking endurance test were measured under standard conditions at baseline and 3 years later. At both times, 63 monozygotic (MZ) and 67 dizygotic (DZ) twin pairs were measured for walking speed and 58 MZ and 56 DZ pairs for walking endurance. Participants were twin sisters reared together and aged 63-75 years at baseline. Genetic and environmental influences were examined using longitudinal genetic modelling. The results showed that walking speed was preserved from baseline to follow-up. Genetic influences on walking s…

One-Year Quality of Life Trends in Early-Stage Lung Cancer Patients After Lobectomy

2020

Objective: Quality of Life (QoL) is an important predictor of patient's recovery and survival in lung cancer patients. The aim of the present study is to identify 1-year trends of lung cancer patients' QoL after robot-assisted or traditional lobectomy and investigate whether clinical (e.g., pre-surgery QoL, type of surgery, and perioperative complications) and sociodemographic variables (e.g., age) may predict these trends. Methods: An Italian sample of 176 lung cancer patients undergoing lobectomy completed the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Quality of Life Questionnaire—Core 30 (QLQ-C30) at the pre-hospitalization (t0), 30 days (t1), 4 months (t2), 8 mon…

Channel Tracking Guidewire and Technique for Retrograde Approach

2020

Evaluation of the collateral circulation is critical for determining the feasibility of the retrograde approach. When assessing collateral channels it is of paramount importance to take time and review the previous angiogram carefully, for multiple potential collateral pathways, as the predominant collateral may change over time prior to the procedure. Careful review of collaterals prior to the procedure can reduce contrast and radiation dose as well as the duration of the procedure.Retrograde access to the distal vessel can be achieved via septal collaterals, epicardial collaterals (atrial channel), or (patent or occluded) coronary bypass grafts. Generally septals are used more often 65–70…

On the Performance of Channel Assembling and Fragmentation in Cognitive Radio Networks

2014

[EN] Flexible channel allocation may be applied to multi-channel cognitive radio networks (CRNs) through either channel assembling (CA) or channel fragmentation (CF). While CA allows one secondary user (SU) occupy multiple channels when primary users (PUs) are absent, CF provides finer granularity for channel occupancy by allocating a portion of one channel to an SU flow. In this paper, we investigate the impact of CF together with CA for SU flows by proposing a channel access strategy which activates both CF and CA and correspondingly evaluating its performance. In addition, we also consider a novel scenario where CA is enabled for PU flows. The performance evaluation is conducted based on…

Size Dependence of Tracer Diffusion in Supercooled Liquids

1996

We have determined by forced Rayleigh scattering the diffusion coefficients D of several photochromic tracers with van der Waals radii between 0.38 and 8 nm (the largest ones being photolabeled polystyrene micronetworks) in 10 glass-forming liquids at temperatures between the glass temperature Tg and ∼1.2Tg. The results were analyzed in terms of power law plots, D(T) ∝ T/η(T)ξ, where η is the solvent shear viscosity, and temperature shifts, D(T) ∝ T/η(T + ΔT). The shift ΔT was related with the width of the rotational correlation time distribution via the time−temperature superposition principle.

New insights in the metabolic behaviour of PAO under negligible poly-P reserves

2017

[EN] In a previous study the authors confirmed the ability of PAOs to perform GAO metabolism in short-term experiments. However, what happens when PAOs are exposed to poly-P shortage for an extended period of time? The answer to this question was the aim of this work from a macroscopic and microscopic point of view. Therefore, the poly-P was removed from a PAO enriched SBR and maintained without poly-P during five solid retention time. The PAOs were found to quickly change their metabolism to a clear GAO performance and remained without GAO colonization for the entire experimental period, even though GAO was present (around 5%) at the beginning of the experiment. Unlike the results obtained…

A current source density analysis of field potentials evoked in slices of visual cortex

1987

The method of one-dimensional current source density (CSD) analysis was applied to field potentials recorded from 350 microns thick slices of the primary visual cortex of rats and cats. Field potentials were elicited by stimulation of the white matter and recorded along trajectories perpendicular to the cortical layers at spatial intervals of 25 to 50 microns. The resulting CSD distributions resembled closely those recorded from the cat visual cortex "in vivo". The responses with the shortest latency were distinct sinks in layers IV and VI probably reflecting monosynaptic EPSP's from specific thalamic afferents. From layer IV activity was relayed along three major routes: 1. to the supragra…

The e-ASTROGAM gamma-ray space observatory for the multimessenger astronomy of the 2030s

2018

e-ASTROGAM is a concept for a breakthrough observatory space mission carrying a gamma-ray telescope dedicated to the study of the non-thermal Universe in the photon energy range from 0.15 MeV to 3 GeV. The lower energy limit can be pushed down to energies as low as 30 keV for gamma-ray burst detection with the calorimeter. The mission is based on an advanced space-proven detector technology, with unprecedented sensitivity, angular and energy resolution, combined with remarkable polarimetric capability. Thanks to its performance in the MeV-GeV domain, substantially improving its predecessors, e-ASTROGAM will open a new window on the non-thermal Universe, making pioneering observations of the…
