Photocatalytic Activity of TiO2 Coatings Obtained at Room Temperature on a Polymethyl Methacrylate Substrate
2022
Titanium dioxide (TiO2) coatings have a wide range of applications. Anatase exhibits hydrophilic, antimicrobial, and photocatalytic properties for the degradation of organic pollutants or water splitting. The main challenge is to obtain durable anatase nanoparticle coatings on plastic substrates by using straightforward approaches. In the present study, we revealed the preparation of a transparent TiO2 coating on polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA), widely used for organic optical fibres as well as other polymer substrates such as polypropylene (PP), polystyrene (PS), and polycarbonate (PC). The films were spin-coated at room temperature without annealing; therefore, our approach can be used for …

Soft Tissue Response to Titanium Abutments with Different Surface Treatment: Preliminary Histologic Report of a Randomized Controlled Trial
2016
The aim of this preliminary prospective RCT was to histologically evaluate peri-implant soft tissues around titanium abutments treated using different cleaning methods. Sixteen patients were randomized into three groups: laboratory customized abutments underwent Plasma of Argon treatment (Plasma Group), laboratory customized abutments underwent cleaning by steam (Steam Group), and abutments were used as they came from industry (Control Group). Seven days after the second surgery, soft tissues around abutments were harvested. Samples were histologically analyzed. Soft tissues surrounding Plasma Group abutments predominantly showed diffuse chronic infiltrate, almost no acute infiltrate, with …
Effect of modulator connectivity on promoting defectivity in titanium–organic frameworks
2020
The recognition of defect chemistry as a true synthetic tool for targeted creation of defects and controllable performance remains limited by the pool of frameworks explored. The value of defect engineering in controlling the properties of defective frameworks has been beautifully exemplified and largely demonstrated with UiO-type materials based on Zr(iv) nodes. However, titanium–organic frameworks remain largely unexplored in this context arguably due to the complex chemistry in solution of Ti(iv) and the difficulties in growing crystalline solids. We report a systematic study on the ability of mono- and dicarboxylic modulators (benzoic and isophthalic acid) to promote defect creation in …
Photocatalytic H2 production over inverse opal TiO2 catalysts
2019
Abstract The influence of BiVO4 and CuO on the chemico-physical properties of TiO2-based systems is reported. The performances of these systems were investigated in the photocatalytic H2 production both under UV and solar light irradiation. The characterization data pointed out that the obtained TiO2 samples have highly porous inverse opal structures with interconnected macropores. Inverse opal TiO2 exhibited higher activity in the H2 production than the commercial TiO2 due to the peculiar porosity that allows photons to enter inside the photocatalyst. A further improvement in terms of photoactivity was verified by addition of increasing amounts of BiVO4. On the contrary a small CuO content…
The multi-effects of K2TiF6 additive on the properties of PEO coatings on AZ31 Mg alloy
2020
Abstract Plasma electrolytic oxidation of AZ31 Mg alloy was performed in an alkaline silicate-based solution containing various concentrations of K2TiF6 using unipolar waveform at a constant voltage. The surface morphology of all coatings was rough and contained a micro-pore network, micro-cracks, and granules of oxide compounds in different diameters and micro-pore levels. The coating is composed of MgO, MgF2, Mg2SiO4, SiO2 (amorphous), and TiO2 (crystalline and amorphous) phases. The average thickness of the coatings was increased by adding the K2TiF6, where EDS results showed that a skinny fluoride-rich passive layer forms. With increasing time and reaching the final potential, the TiO2 …
Osseointegration of one-piece zirconia implants compared with a titanium implant of identical design: a histomorphometric study in the dog
2010
Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate osseointegration of one-piece zirconia vs. titanium implants depending on their insertion depth by histomorphometry. Material and methods: Four one-piece implants of identical geometry were inserted on each side of six mongrel dogs: (1) an uncoated zirconia implant, (2) a zirconia implant coated with a calcium-liberating titanium oxide coating, (3) a titanium implant and (4) an experimental implant made of a synthetic material (polyetheretherketone). In a split-mouth manner they were inserted in submerged and non-submerged gingival healing modes. After 4 months, dissected blocks were stained with toluidine blue in order to histologically asse…
Mesenchymal stem cell proliferation and differentiation on load-bearing trabecular Nitinol scaffolds.
2013
Bone tissue regeneration in load-bearing regions of the body requires high-strength porous scaffolds capable of supporting angiogenesis and osteogenesis. 70% porous Nitinol (NiTi) scaffolds with a regular 3-D architecture resembling trabecular bone were produced from Ni foams using an original reactive vapor infiltration technique. The "trabecular Nitinol" scaffolds possessed a high compressive strength of 79 MPa and high permeability of 6.9×10(-6) cm2. The scaffolds were further modified to produce a near Ni-free surface layer and evaluated in terms of Ni ion release and human mesenchymal stem cell (hMSC) proliferation (AlamarBlue), differentiation (alkaline phosphatase activity, ALP) and …
Shape memory NiTi thin films deposited at low temperature
1999
Abstract NiTi shape memory alloy (SMA) thin films have the potential to become high performance actuators for micro-electromechanical systems. Low temperature crystallized NiTi films would ensure a good compatibility with microelectronic processes and polymers. To avoid the drawbacks induced by annealing, we have tried to obtain low temperature crystallized RF sputtered NiTi films by optimising deposition parameters. We have found that NiTi films containing an excess of Ti (∼52%) were crystallized when deposited on Si(100) substrates heated up to only 473 K. NiTi/Si(n) Schottky diodes I–V characteristics showed a temperature dependence indicating structural transition in the NiTi electrode.…
Assessment of root canal enlargement using Mtwo and BioRace rotary files.
2014
Objective. To evaluate root canal enlargement following mechanical shaping using 2 nickel titanium rotary systems.Material and Methods. Forty single-rooted teeth were immersed in resin and sectioned perpendicular to the long axis at 4, 8, and 12 mm from the apex. Digital capture of sections was performed before and after canal instrumentation using Mtwo and BioRace instruments. The area increase of endodontic space was calculated by subtraction.Results. The use of both instruments has allowed the removal of great amounts of dentin from the canal walls, even when the endodontic morphology is characterized by awkwardness to reach recesses.Conclusions. Both procedures seem to be valid and no d…
