La fase del Ibérico final en el asentamiento del Torrelló del Boverot (Almazora, Castellón): dos piezas cerámicas singulares
2000
Since the end of 1988, when excavation was resumed at the Torrelló del Boverot site in Almazora (Castellón), large amounts of material —mostly ceramics— have been recovered, dating from the end of the Iberian period, which, chronologically, marked the end of the village's life. This paper discusses two unusual ceramic pieces from this late period, documented during the excavations that took place in 1995, undertaken in the central area of the site. The records obtained in this work matches that of a batch of materials donated to the Museum of Almazora by the amateurs who excavated this village in the mid-1970s.
New Proposal on the Symbology of the Protohistoric Tray of El Gandul (Alcalá de Guadaira, Seville)
2018
Dicho mitem…
Efficient generation of energetic ions in multi-ion plasmas by radio-frequency heating
2017
We describe a new technique for the efficient generation of high-energy ions with electromagnetic ion cyclotron waves in multi-ion plasmas. The discussed ‘three-ion’ scenarios are especially suited for strong wave absorption by a very low number of resonant ions. To observe this effect, the plasma composition has to be properly adjusted, as prescribed by theory. We demonstrate the potential of the method on the world-largest plasma magnetic confinement device, JET (Joint European Torus, Culham, UK), and the high-magnetic-field tokamak Alcator C-Mod (Cambridge, USA). The obtained results demonstrate efficient acceleration of 3He ions to high energies in dedicated hydrogen–deuterium mixtures.…
Attractors/Basin of Attraction
2020
It is a controversial issue to decide who first coined the term “attractor”. According to Peter Tsatsanis, the editor of the English version of Prédire n’est pas expliquer, it was René Thom who first introduced such a term. It is necessary, however, to remember that Thom thought that it was first introduced by the American mathe- matician Steven Smale, “although Smale says it was Thom that coined the neolo- gism “attractor”“(Tsatsanis 2010: 63–64 n. 20). From this point of view, Bob Williams expressed a more cautious opinion by saying that “the word “attractor” was invented by these guys, Thom and Smale” (Cucker and Wong 2000: 183). But other mathematicians are of the opinion that the term …
Splittings of Toric Ideals
2019
Let $I \subseteq R = \mathbb{K}[x_1,\ldots,x_n]$ be a toric ideal, i.e., a binomial prime ideal. We investigate when the ideal $I$ can be "split" into the sum of two smaller toric ideals. For a general toric ideal $I$, we give a sufficient condition for this splitting in terms of the integer matrix that defines $I$. When $I = I_G$ is the toric ideal of a finite simple graph $G$, we give additional splittings of $I_G$ related to subgraphs of $G$. When there exists a splitting $I = I_1+I_2$ of the toric ideal, we show that in some cases we can describe the (multi-)graded Betti numbers of $I$ in terms of the (multi-)graded Betti numbers of $I_1$ and $I_2$.

Constructivism in Science Education: The Need for a Clear Line of Demarcation
2003
Some voices have recently begun to question the constructivist positions, which have been considered the most important contribution of the last decades in science education. It could be thought then, that the“constructivist consensus” might just be a new fashion that would once again lead us back to the immovable reception model of science learning. This questions, at the same time, the idea of an advance in the field of science education towards the construction of a coherent body of knowledge.
Susceptibility of Tortrix viridiana L. to Bacillus thuringiensis var. kurstaki at different level of larval development.
2009
Recently out-breaks of the green oak leaf roller Tortrix viridana L. (Lepidoptera, Tortricidae) were recorded in Natural Reserve in Sicily (Italy) where treatments are generally forbidden. The commercial, social and environmental value of the wood in the forest needs to be preserved and biological control could be applied in particular case. To optimise the permitted biological treatment, not only in terms of product amount but also for the time of application baseline susceptibility of T. viridiana from the Natural Reserve of Ficuzza (Palermo, Italy) to a commercial formulation of Bacillus thuringiensis was determined for neonates and 2, 5, 10 and 15 day old larvae. The differences in susc…
Wider implications of video-assisted thoracic surgery versus open approach for lung metastasectomy
2015
ABSTRACT Lung metastasectomy is considered a safe and potentially curative procedure despite there is not a strong evidence that metastasectomy prolongs long-term survival in patients with lung metastases. Moreover, the debate is open regarding the best approach for lung metastasectomy, video-assisted thoracic surgery versus open approach. A systematic review of literature to clarify what is the best approach to prolong survival in patients with lung metastases was performed. Our study confirms that overall survival is equivalent for video-assisted thoracic surgery and thoracotomy, therefore the ‘gold standard’ surgical treatment for lung metastases remains a point of debate. The choice o…
CARDIOPROTEZIONE ED ANESTESIA EPIDURA- LE TORACICA: UN CASO DI ISCHEMIA MIOCAR- DICA POSTOPERATORIA
2013
Obiettivo. Analisi dell’effetto cardioprotettivo perioperatorio dell’anestesia peridurale toracica (TEA) in un paziente car- diopatico sottoposto a chirurgia non cardiaca. Materiali e metodi.
