Anti-inflammatory activity of flavonoids from Cayaponia tayuya roots.
2008
Taiuiá or tayuya (Cayaponia tayuya, Cucurbitaceae) is a climbing, lignified plant with a large swollen root that has traditionally been used as an anti-inflammatory and anti-rheumatic agent in the folk medicine of Brazil, Peru, and Colombia. We have assayed the pharmacological properties of a flavonoid fraction obtained from the butanol extract of Cayaponia tayuya roots using two models of topical mouse ear oedema, paying special attention to its influence on the induction on pro-inflammatory enzymes and peptidic mediators. The in vivo experiments involved both the acute oedema induced by a single application of TPA and the subchronic inflammation brought on by repeated applications of TPA. T…

Can eastern wisdom resolve western epidemics? Traditional Chinese medicine therapies and the opioid crisis.
2020
The widespread use of opioids to treat chronic pain led to a nation-wide crisis in the United States. Tens of thousands of deaths annually occur mainly due to respiratory depression, the most dangerous side effect of opioids. Non-opioid drugs and non-pharmacological treatments without addictive potential are urgently required. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is based on a completely different medical theory than academic Western medicine. The scientific basis of acupuncture and herbal treatments as main TCM practices has been considerably improved during the past two decades, and large meta-analyses with thousands of patients provide evidence for their efficacy. Furthermore, opinion lead…
2018
Between 1860 and 1950 Italian architecture had the task of building the modern image of a young nation. Politics asked to architects to convey, through their work, identity messages to the collectivity. This process was particularly present during the period of fascism (1922- 1943), at the disposal of the government of Benito Mussolini. Through strong messages deeply rooted to the ancient Roman tradition, fascism sought to restore a national identity that would guarantee the duration of the regime. The fundamental elements on which constituted this identity were the memorial monuments, places where the mass of the people feels the need to recognize each other to express the cult of the home…

La dimension musicale des textes des troubadours
2016
"Tipi musicali, generi poetici, genera…

"Janie do Cię wracamy w czarnoleskie lipy". Polskie tradycje źródłowe w odmianach literacko-kulturowej współczesności (wybory - powtórzenia - różnice)
2018
The subject of the article - developed through the literary and cultural contexts of contemporary literature - concentrates mainly on different forms of the presence of tradition (targeting the Romantic one as key and the Old Polish as the subsequent one). A look at the styles and tones of the literature-"thriving" languages of these traditions allows us to see these traditions in a different critical light (national symbols/Polish signs/patters/transformations).
Joseph Conrad's Adventure With English
2022
This article discusses Conrad’s Anglophone linguistic identity to show how writing became his “promised land” and fictional homeplace. This fictional retreat reflects his childhood experience, (connected with his Polish background), hopes, and fears, but it is likewise refracted through episodes of his later life. Conrad’s own articulation of his complex relation to English, England, and his own nationality, reveals his outlook on literature and language: “When speaking, writing or thinking in English the word Home always means for me the hospitable shores of Great Britain” (Collected Letters 1:12) and “Both at sea and on land, my point of view is English, from which the conclusion should n…
