Surface Reflectance: An Optical Method for Multiscale Curvature Characterization of Wear on Ceramic–Metal Composites
2020
Surface gradient characterization by light reflectance (SGCLR) is used for the first time for multiscale curvature calculations and discrimination of worn surfaces on six damaged ceramic&ndash

Graphical Template Language for Transformation Synthesis
2010
Higher-Order Transformations (HOT) have become an important support for the development of model transformations in various transformation languages. Most frequently HOTs are used to synthesize transformations from different kinds of models, for example, mapping models. This means that model driven development (MDD) is being successfully applied to transformations themselves too. The standard HOT solution is to create the transformation as a model using the abstract syntax. However, for graphical transformation languages a significantly more efficient solution would be to create the transformation using its graphical (concrete) syntax. An analogy could be the textual template languages such…
Quasi-Conformal Technique for Integrating and Validating Myocardial Tissue Characterization in MRI with Ex-Vivo Human Histological Data
2017
Ventricular tachycardia caused by a circuit of re-entry is one of the most critical arrhythmias. It is usually related with heterogeneous scar regions where slow velocity of conduction tissue is mixed with non-conductive tissue, creating pathways (CC) responsible for the tachycardia. Pre-operative DE-MRI can provide information on myocardial tissue viability and then improve therapy planning. However, the current DE-MRI resolution is not sufficient for identifying small CCs and therefore they have to be identified during the intervention, which requires considerable operator experience. In this work, we studied the relationship of histological data (with 10 \(\mu \)m resolution), with in-vi…
Postsurgical Paracicatricial Cutaneous Satellitosis of Giant Cell Tumour of Tendon Sheath, Localized Type.
2011
The tenosynovial giant cell tumour (localized type) is a tumour of tendon sheaths and interphalangeal joints, affecting the digits and arising from the synovium. It is characterized by a proliferation of mononuclear cells and osteoclast-like polykaryocytes. Its propagation to the skin is an exceptional event, which can take place either in localized form in the fingertips (localized type) or in the rare diffuse form called giant cell tumour of the tendon sheath, ( diffuse type ). We report here a case of giant cell tumour with cutaneous satellites, which appeared close to and around the surgical scar following the excision of the primary lesion, in a 9-year-old boy. In the cutaneous satelli…
Generalized Virasoro anomaly and stress tensor for dilaton coupled theories
2003
We derive the anomalous transformation law of the quantum stress tensor for a 2D massless scalar field coupled to an external dilaton. This provides a generalization of the Virasoro anomaly which turns out to be consistent with the trace anomaly. We apply it together with the equivalence principle to compute the expectation values of the covariant quantum stress tensor on a curved background. Finally we briefly illustrate how to evaluate vacuum polarization and Hawking radiation effects from these results.
ChemInform Abstract: Synthesis of Elemane Bis-lactones Structurally Related to Vernolepin.
2010
Abstract The chemical transformation of santonin into an elemane bis -lactone structurally related to the antitumour compound vernolepin is reported. The transformation of ring A of santonin into a hemiacetal δ-lactone was achieved in eleven steps. The spectroscopic characteristics of the synthetic product obtained in this way revealed that the proposed structure for the natural product should be revised.
A basic analysis toolkit for biological sequences
2007
This paper presents a software library, nicknamed BATS, for some basic sequence analysis tasks. Namely, local alignments, via approximate string matching, and global alignments, via longest common subsequence and alignments with affine and concave gap cost functions. Moreover, it also supports filtering operations to select strings from a set and establish their statistical significance, via z-score computation. None of the algorithms is new, but although they are generally regarded as fundamental for sequence analysis, they have not been implemented in a single and consistent software package, as we do here. Therefore, our main contribution is to fill this gap between algorithmic theory an…
COMPUTER AIDED ENGINEERING FOR THERMO-MECHANICAL-METALLURGICAL ANALYSIS OF FORGING OPERATIONS OF TITANIUM ALLOYS
In this thesis a study on the forging processes of Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy, with particular focus on the numerical applications and simulation design of hot forming methods, was done. The aim of this work is to collect all data concerning the material definition in terms of thermal, mechanical and microstructural properties of the selected alloy in order to filter all useful information to describe the behavior of the material under the characteristic conditions of the hot forging processes, taking into account both thermo-mechanical and metallurgical aspects involved during a such complex thermo-mechanical stage. Those information were collected and used to characterize the material prope…
